It isn't replacing the Horde Fanatic as I have that and the Duitful Gruntling is still greyed out. Obtaining Prestige level 1 isn't too difficult, I got it in a few weeks doing PvP casually. Every level you go up after that requires more honor so it will take more to reach each level.
These definitely are not a time based pet; meaning they spawn during the day and evening. I didn't see any spawn so I ran around killing the non-pet versions and within 5 minutes I had a spawn appear. If you're struggling with finding one, give that method a shot!
I also had great luck by the flower vendor. I didn't want to risk it disappearing without me nearby, so I didn't have the /target and /cheer tied to the same macro.
I've had really good luck with the nests closest to the shore. People seem to not realize they're there. Worth checking out! :)
Today was my first day of actually attempting to get this pet on my realm (Kilrogg). I got it in Dragonblight (at 82.0, 66.0). Thankfully I was checking all the icons that came up on my map because NPCScan was NOT working. I came across a wonderful flight map on WoWhead so anyone wanting to have the shortest paths to all the spawn points should check it out. I did no killing of other pets in the area.
These little guys are adorable! I didn't even know they existed, sad to say. Upon arriving in the basin and heading into the known location, I found only one and he was off by himself a little bit out of the noted range on Wowhead. Snagged him quick and it was a poor. Did another circuit and found only one other, again, by himself, and it was a rare. I believe this fella is much like the giraffe calf and can spawn with or without adults.
Happy hunting!
Be sure to fly all AROUND the cave where these little guys spawn. Not a lot of folks are aware that they show up on the sides, as well as behind the cave. I found mine along the side and managed to snag him. :D
I also found this critter backpacking on another pet that I was attempting to battle - I got lucky and it was a rare right off the bat!
I flew around the AQ ruins for about thirty minutes and only found four of these little felllas. The best I could do was an "uncommon", but that'll do for now. They were further within the ruins and not along the edges like WoWhead suggests.
Can confirm that the spot for these guys is actually in Terokkar Forest. It's a fine line between that and Hellfire and they're high up in the mountain line. I dropped by there around 7:30 central time and there was a ton out.
I caught this little fellow on the back of another mob. I flew around for the better part of two hours hoping to find it as a rare, but only came across ONE of it's kind and it was poor quality. :(
He's one of my favorite fighters!
These fellows aren't out en masse. I had to come back a few times with hours in between and finally caught a group of about five scattered in the fel pools on the mountain.
Just completed the questline on the Kilrogg server. The pirates are a slow(ish) spawn but not a nightmare by any means. I went to the northernmost island with the broken boat on it. 2 pirates spawn at the upper edge of the sand, 2 more at the bottom, and then one on the other side of the broken boat. The spawn timer is around 6-9 minutes but you can definitely get all your keys if you just stay there.
