During the Third War, thousands of these mystical beings annihilated the demon lord Archimonde.
I loved this pet, it was my go-to when I was fighting the pandaria tamers. Since 5.2 however, it doesn't seem to be doing as well. (Did they change Light ability?)
They were a little thin on the ground in the early days, but now there are lots around the inn. I upgraded my uncommon to rare without running out of them, and more recently took a party of young pets there to be levelled while I farmed a magic battle stone. Took a lot of dead Wisps, but now I have upgraded my Magic Lamp.
I think of it as a candle, and want to group it with my Lofty Librum and (maybe) Winter Reindeer. Bell, book and candle...
Unless anyone can suggest a better pet to rep a bell?
It is absolutely one of the better anti fliers.

First tried in the afternoon nothing for an hour, tried again early morning found 1 right away, and after killing surrounding critters I found another both poor quality
Even with H/P breed my Wisp performs underwhelmingly.
Light seems somewhat broken - I've yet to see it hit for double damage in darkness despite the supposed blindness.
When I arrived in Nordrassil, there were no wisps up. A Guildmate suggested killing the critters (non-battle pets) around the pond. Sure enough, 2 wisps popped up, the first was an uncommon, the second a rare.
I believe these might be one of the pets that are afftected by weather/hour of the day. After searching for a couple of hours around noon and finding 2 or 3 I came back later that evening at around 10pm server and there were a dozen or more all around me! I saw two rares and three uncommon and filled my pet limit on them withing ten minutes.
These pets spawn rarly in the place of other pets. If you are finding none in the area, enter a battle with the pets that are up, and either battle or forfit then wait for the next spawn.
Spent 2 hours flying in a circle looking for one of these, i did clear the area completely of other pets, then one spawned, not sure if the clearing helps or not, was only an uncommon one but better than nothing, also did about 50 battles round there and none of them contained these as seconds.
After looking for an hr for 1 and not seeing any. I tab out read all the comments here and on a different site. When i tab back in im STANDING on 1 on top of that it's a rare!!! I've done lots of questing in the area so phasing doesn't seem to be a factor just a mater of luck.
I've fought nearly 500 wisps so far. Only seen 20 uncommon, and no rares. To the guy who got two rares easily: I hate you so bad xD Ive been fighting wisps every other hour for weeks and getting every single one after every single server reset and nothing ;3;

Got my rare after a few battle with other pets at nordrassil, first there was no wisp, but then it respawns and in first battle it was with an rare. I met it at 62.28
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you caught a speed breed wisp it would end up with 357 speed and therefore out pace many other pets. In that instance could you abuse flash and have three turns of 100% miss rate?

As stated in a post about Battle Teams, I have many different groupings based on a specific theme. Each of the pets on my teams are named; this is just one reason why someone might want multiples of a given pet. And if we're going to use our teams in pet battles (as I do), the rare pet is better than a gray. So, there are legitimate reasons for capturing more than one rare of a species.

Found 4 around the pond at 9pm server time. A couple had Grotto Voles as adds.
Why would you even want two rares, these are wild pets and can't be traded, once you got the first rare you should have went onto something else.
Ok, the post above makes sense if you have 2 or more battle groups, at the moment I can't do that with the limit of pets at 500, maybe at 650 I can try something like that, thanks for the idea!
YEAH! I got two rare Nordrassil Wisp in one day: one got in the morning and one in the afternoon. I think I am just lucky. This pet is really good battleing. Reducing the accuracy by 50%, that could be the key to win your battle back when you just got less health than your enemy has!
I've been farming this pet (to get a blue one) For about 3/4 days, I'd get a lot more of them after batteling every battle pet around, (using these pets battles to level several of my pets). Still this pet's rare form is truely rare!
Spent 2 hrs camping around the pond managed to get 6 inc 3 green they spawn nowhere else but near the pond on bothsides and inside the quest giver area.
Ive just captured it, finally !! I flew into Nordrassil on my lvl 72 warrior because she had never been there before and I found a wisp at around 58.31. on the Hyjal map. Hope this helps, good luck !!
The first couple of days MoP there were tons of them, now my pets are high enough level and Ive found 3, all poor :( They are by the lake in Nordrassil Level 23 magic accompanied with a silk moth, cochroach or elfin rabbit
I flew around for 30 minutes on two toons and never seen one. I did finally find one behind the inn but only after getting on a third alt that had not done MH. I think there are phasing Issues. 9:30pm Server Level 23. Teamed with a moth and a squirrel.
