Players must complete the initial quest chain offered upon discovering the Mount Hyjal zone to unlock the quests at the Shrine of Aviana. If far enough along the chain, players will be sent to the shrine with the quest Wings Over Mount Hyjal. Alternatively, players may visit the shrine at a later time to begin the pet quest chain.

The Gold Mini Jouster is one of two companion pet rewards for completing the quest chain started at the Shrine of Aviana in Mount Hyjal. The other pet that is offered is the Blue Mini Jouster.

While players may only choose one or the other at the end of the quest, as of Patch 4.2 it is possible to obtain the second jouster companion.

After completing Egg Wave, a jousting daily will become available. Upon mastering the achievement The 'Unbeatable?' Pterodactyl: BEATEN, players will be mailed a chirping box which contains the jouster pet that was not chosen at the end of the initial quest chain.

When summoning this pet, players will do a /cheer emote and a spark of yellow lightning will flash as the pet appears.

To those curious about this bird being sold by a vendor: if for some reason you fail to receive a pet from an earned achievement or completed quest, the pet will be available from Stable Masters (hence the option "I'm looking for a lost companion").  Sometimes pets that you failed to loot will be available as well.  I know of at least one person who discovered a Sprite Darter Hatchling at a Stable Master.

If you lead the buzzards a bit, like in shotgunning you will kill them much faster. i can complete that daily in about 2 minutes, just have to guide them, not steer them, and aim for where your target will be, not where it is

Personally, i enjoyed the quest a lot :D I was frustrated the first time i did it xD then from the second time onwards, i kindda fell in love with it XD

The pet cannot be bought in Storm Peaks, I have checked, And unless you provide the name of the Vendor then I don't believe you. I spent a good time flying around looking for vendors. Non sold the pet.

I believe it's interesting to note, that I have not received the pet from the achivement, however I just stumbled across it being sold by a vendor in Storm Peaks (at Snowdrift Plains)

Got this pet today yay! So Glad that I can get both but not thrilled that I have to do that daily ten times to get him, found it terribly hard to control :P However that being said, at least I dont have to farm him (which I tend to have not so great luck with) lol

You can have both. Just need to do the achievement Beat the Unbeatable by doing the daily quest 10 times. I have both and love them both. The achievement will give you whichever one you did not chose as a quest reward.

Subject: Please... Just Take It

Ever since his brother was taken away. This little creature has been nothing short of a handful. The guardians and I have done everything we can to contain his energy, but our efforts have fallen depressingly short.

It is now clear. He wants to be with his brother. It took us nearly an hour to get him contained. Please, take him with you.
Perhaps some time outside of this cavern will do him good.

Got my 2nd jouster bird today after completing the daily in Hyjal 10 times. I personally found the jousting to be very annoying to control, but it was worth doing to get this pet! I hated that they made us choose just one before, so glad Blizzard changed that :)

With the release of 4.2, the new achievement "The 'Unbeatable?' Pterodactyl: BEATEN" awards the mini-jouster you didn't choose initially.

The achievement involves completing the daily quest "Vigilance on Wings" ten times.

I wish both of these were avaliable... i really want the gold mini jouster but i chose the blue :(. and to the post above they're rare because you can only choose one, though ive heard you'll be able to get whatever jouster you didnt pick from this quest from an achievment/quest in 4.2.

I completely agree with the above commenter, they need to make it possible for two Mini Jousters to actually joust when they get close.

And as a side note, why does the pet profile list it as 'Very Rare'? It's actually common isn't it? Considering it's white and comes from a readily available quest?

Why do I have to choose between two birds? For someone who is obsessed with birds this is torture. Blue or Gold? A forced decision based on color. I hug my warm Gold Mini Jouster as I shed tears for the Blue Mini Jouster that I will never have.

I got the blue one since blue my fav color, sucks that you can't have both like the children weekly in Northrend. Also just wanted to point out that you put that this ones the Blue Mini Jouster instead of it being the Gold on in the notes.

you need do a sequal quest on "shrine of aviana".
then you can going on portal in firelands hatchery.
do 3 quest, where you take 40 egg.
then you can choose this or other color of mini jouster

This gets a lot easier once you realise that flapping your wings both moves you upwards and boosts you in the direction you are facing.So to turn around you need to both turn AND flap.Don't worry about the falling rocks-you can survive 2 or 3 then get a new mount without failing.On the final phase,when you take off from the questgiver,follow the wall to the left and slightly down.There's a big ledge where no rocks fall and where the eggs respawn fast.And yeah,it's a shame we can only get one.

While I love all of my companions, I have a hard time summoning these mini jousters. They remind me too much of long hours spent jousting at the Argent Tournament. Frankly, anything that reminds me of those tedious, grueling times is too much to to bear. I'd rather face Deathwing solo than do any more jousting.
