From my understanding the pet is currently a 1 in 10000 World Drop from Feralas so both the Alliance and Horde have equal chance to get it to drop from any mob in the entire zone. Trust me I've killed enough Sprite Darters to confirm the egg is not a 1 in 1000 drop from them.

i find it unfair that as horde i had to kill those adorable cuties while allies get it for being nice to them, they dont even attack you :)
i felt sad farming it.

I'm an Alliance player and have been grinding for this pet for more than 2 weeks. I've killed just over six thousand mobs so far with no drop. I switch between the ogres and the noxious whelplings. This has been an ok strategy since I've gotten five emerald whelplings and have made a nice little chunk of change in the process. I'm really looking forward to taking this little guys home with me some day.

I'm wondering if the level 40-50 is correct as I can't find anything above 38ish in Feralas? The gnolls near the east are 37 and the whelps are 35. Any help would be greatly appreciated...this is my most wanted pet!

After spending around 35 hours pure farming this cutey and still not seeing any sight of the hatchling I opened a ticket with GM. Their answer follows:

'I have taken a look into this matter and I can assure you that this item does still drop in-game :) However please note that this has a VERY low chance of dropping off of the mobs :( '

I guess this is going to be a very long haul to get this. One good points, if you are a high level to kill lots and fast you get lots of silk to sell!

I got it with one toon off the mauraders but it took a long time, now working for another toon and still farming. I wish they still let you get it through the quest line, that was fun. This is not.

i am farming this pet for many days now from the sprite darters above camp mojache and NOTHING.
i opened a ticket asking if they actually drop it, and the GM said yes, so i guess all i can do is keep looking.
did it drop for anyone from them after cata?

This is one my favorite pets, if its not THE one. Its probably the most beautiful pet ever! I got him on several of my alliance chars while it still was a quest and I'm happy I didnt have to grind for it! XD
What weird is a lot of people was asking me where I got this baby while it was still a quest... I guess the long timed chain quests that was making us travel all around the world made some people drop the quest :')

This pet is the bane of my existence. I am horde and I cannot get this thing to save my life. I have been at it like 12 hours over 4 days..... All over wowhead they are saying they got it in 10 drops or an hour max. I am farming the sprites above Camp Mojache in Feralas. What am I doing wrong!?

Has anyone found this since 4.0.6 yet? I have killed 9216 mobs and I am beginning to think that it simply doesn't drop anymore! I ticketed a GM yesterday who said it was working as intended but if that was the case then technically I should have seen this drop 9 times by now! I know its not a certainty but I still feel I should have gotten my pet at over 9k kills. I don't always trust information from GMs as I have been misinformed by them before so any updates from others would be appreciated.x

I have to say, before this change even the Horde had it easy on farming this little critter! It seems extremely hard on both sides to find, now. If it was able to be picked up via the Noxious Whelps, I have so far found zero out of 153, headed off to try somewhere else.

So is this pet going to be hard to get for the Allys now? Im asking because I have one on my main and on my hunter alt but I would like to know if we could get one on my new alt worgen druid? If so then that will be cool but if we have to go around killing them like the hordes then darn it >:( guess Im going to have to farm it then . . . . *sigh*

I think the quest is gone and the sprite darters are unkillable after patch 4.03a for Alliance faction. What a bummer pls fix this blizz

I farmed the Marauders last night/this morning as well with no luck however the egg has a slightly lower drop rate from them but they have faster spawn rate making it easier to get to the kill compared to getting to the darters 1by1. So, I would stick with the marauders.

I'm a longtime fan of this site, and therefore want to make a contribution towards accurate information.

I have killed over 600 of these over 4 hours, and had no drop. I've quadruple checked that I'm in the right area, beating on the correct, poor mob. I've also put in the world's most embarrassing ticket, thinking it might be glitched. I don't know what the result of that will be.

At any rate, unless I'm a mega-outlier, the drop rate is definitely not 1 in 100.

Horde can still get this pet, I saw one drop yesterday. They now drop of the Noxious Whelplings in Northern Feralas over by Dream Portal.
