Mechanical Rare pet becoming Uncommon?

I got a cheap rare Mechanical Panderan Dragonling off the AH. It was not caged as a battle pet, it was non battle pet form. Then when I got it, I caged it and it turned Uncommon. I was looking for info about caging rare mechanical pets. Do all rare mechanicals turn uncommon when you cage them?

Which RARE pets can lose their rarity somehow, is it typically just mechanical pets? I've been searching guides for this.

It is not a bug but is related to the fact that the Quality of the item that teaches the pet isn't necessarily the quality of the pet you end up learning. For example the item that teaches the Hyacinth Macaw is epic but the pet is only rare.

There are examples that go the other way like Leaping Hatchling. The item is White (common) but the pet learned is uncommon.

Unfortunately, there really isn't anyway to see this ahead of time by looking at item you just have to know it can happen and make sure you know what quality the pet will actually be once learned. If you bought a caged Mechanical Panderan Dragonling and learned it it would be rare as you'd expect not uncommon.

Pets don't lose their rarity. To parrot what [profile]Kpb321[/profile] already mentioned, the quality of the item that teaches the pet doesn't always match the quality of the pet once its in your Pet Journal. This is true for many pets of any family type, not just mechanical.

We have a stickied thread here that lists all the pets that have a base (battle) quality of uncommon. The items that teach these pets can vary from common (white) to rare (blue), but the pets listed will always be uncommon when added to your journal. Unless, of course, if you buy a caged version that has already been upgraded to rare.
