I collected this awesome 8-ball bit of fun this morning and it does not seem to count towards my total number of pets. Is this an error or does it actually not count.

Could you please clarify 'total number of pets'? Are you referring to here on WarcraftPets, in the Bnet armory, or in-game?

My total number of pets counted on warcraft pets. Sorry for the confusion.
