Mists of Pandaria
Patch 5.2.0 | Posted: March 5, 2013
Level 0: 0 0 0
Some Pandaren believe G'nathus to be an ancient Zandalari Loa left behind to guard the waters south of Lei Shen's island citadel.
G ' nathus spawns a the far north of the most northern island in townlong and patrols the top part of the island back and fourth. He has a 10 min respawn timer and for an easy kill get a healer, good tank and 1 - 3 dps.He is best fought from one of the small ledges with the tank in the water (so healers have somewhere to put totems and statues if needed) try and interrupt his lighning breath for healers mana. Drop rate on the pet is 100%. pet is both sellable without learning as an item or cageable later on.
Unless you can put out an impossible amount of ranged damage and heal yourself while kiting him around the island, chances are you won't be able to kill him by yourself in less than an hour. I'd recommend a group of 3-5 people with at least one healer. Have the most heavily armored DPS kite him if you don't have a tank. Also note that if you get too close to the rocks/shore, he WILL bug and evade you and you'll have to start all over so make sure to kite him at safe distance from shore!
I named mine Flotsam since it looks like an eel from The Little Mermaid. Luckily my husband got this for me. I didn't like it at first, I mean it's not very cute. But I grew attached to it. Haven't used it in battle yet.
Don't confuse G'nathus, with Spawn of G'nathus.
Pet itself doesn't drop from Spawn of Gnathus. (which has 4m hp)
It drops from G'nathus. (40m hp) And it appears to be %100, but one per kill, not to all members.
He indeed hits like a truck. Some AoE lightning breath, mostly melee dmg.
North most area in water on Isle of Shan'ze Dao in Towne Long Steppes. Loc 25, 6. Look for the 2 caged cloudrunner hatchlings by the top of the cliff.
A few pointers that helped a group of 4 (War tank, Monk healer, Mage and me - shad priest)
There is a small rock area you can sit and rest and tag him & helps to reset if things are going bad and to drink up on a corpse run. Nearly a direct line after a slight turn if you do die.
You need to be in the water for the fight, just prepare to see him rise above it once engaged. AoE damage will aggro 2 small reef pincer crabs that are easy to kill but you will not aggro anything else.
He respawned approx 5-10 min
I got lucky and won the roll - thank you <Pirates of the Blackwater> - they know to call on me if they need assistance :)
Killed G'nathus at 10:29 server with 7 buddys, but I didn't win the roll. The boss respawned at 10:41 server.. spawned agen 10min later! and droped the pet every time. :) ( only took a group of 5 to kill him the last 2 times )
Patch Day. So after trying and failing solo, I came back with a healer friend to try again, and realized that what I was missing was glyphed Curse of Exhaustion (for 70% snare). The lightning does ~70k every 5-10s, which I think could be managable (by some classes) solo. Took ten minutes, waterwalking around the isle.
He does not live in a bubble, as the General Info tab here pictures. He slithers around a few inches off the ground. Cannot fly, unfortunately.
I'd say the PvE battle prowess of this pet is overrated. No self healing. A mix of aquatic and elemental damage. PWS fits the same bill and is stronger.
Nonetheless an easy to farm pet with a nice model. Good for collectors.
I found him hard to solo now, there are also a lot of adds arround. I reccomend clearing the area first or you will have trouble like I did.
What an AWESOME battle pet! Honey hits like a mack truck and though the three abilities I use with her have cool-downs, the pet she's attacking is DEAD by the time I've used her third ability. (Use her as 1st pet and swap her out and then back for the 3rd opponent) I think she's one of the most beautiful pets out there as well (I have been scuba diving with a free-swimming Green Moray Eel so I love these misunderstood creatures)--she's an 11 on a scale of 10 as a battle pet, WOW!!
Using the Cursed Swabby Helmet [ item ] makes this fight really easy and soloable, just constantly be side stepping the breath, and move out during arc nova. Enjoy your free pet :]
I've killed G'nathus twice now; once for my own pet and second just to sell it. As a 90 BM Hunter (527iLevel) it was simple. It just takes a while. Use something to give you water walk. The fishing raft (use before engaging) or a water strider type pet works fine. Stay just at range and heal your pet every once in a while and it's easy peasy lemon squeazy :)
Got mine tonight, solo 90 Destro Lock with improved Void. Didn't need much healing for the Void, took about 6 min to solo him. Nice pet, may try to find him again sometimes and farm another pet for a fellow guildie who also collects battle pets.
Saw it in the AH on Shadow Council so I went looking for it. Found it right away and with my tank pet and my freinds preist, we took it down with ease. we both needed on it and I won by 1 point. WOOT!
I was doing fine on my ele shaman, but he reset on me 3 times when I almost had him dead because he got stuck on the rocks/mountains. Just try to keep your distance from those and land of course.
Killed G'nathus solo, took me just under five minutes, dropping Spawn of G'nathus and Sharp Fangs x2 (lol) Worth it as an Ele shammy just keeping flame shock/Frost shock or earthgrab up. Keep dat water walking up, and you'll be fine. If you're not as geared as I, being a ~556-559 raider, it'll take longer, just don't let the slows fall off and you'll be good!
I did this last night on my 90 SV hunter. My husband helped on his rogue 90 Sub spec. He died like 4 times. I was able to use my pet to tank with it never going below 90 %. Didn't have to kite him. That Arc Nova is devestating to melee.
Got mine toonight also.
Solo as warlock destro with void, only took 7 mins.
Just make sure you are behind and not too far.
even when couple of local 91 elites got pulled in viody never fell below 80%
just got mine tonite with my friends ty
Easily soloed today with my ilvl 490 warlock using improved VW pet in Destro spec.
Granted it took about 13 minutes, butmy pet never died/had to be replaced, and I took no damage as well.
