Anyone have any idea what the drop rate is for the Crimson Whelpling? I have 5000 mobs under my belt in the Green Belt so the posted .1% drop rate seems wildly optimistic?

Re: Crimson Whelpling Drop Rate?
It's incredibly low. I know I was well over 5k kills combined on mobs that dropped it (both pre-cata and post-cata) before I got the pet. I think counted I had close to 5k, so probably closer to 6k or 7k including uncounted kills.
Zone drops tend to take much longer than pets that come from specific mobs, so you could be in for a long grind.

I farmed for 2 to 3 hours no drop. A friend came along to help, he got the drop in 15 minutes.
I don't use one of those kill counter things, so I'm not entirely certain how many mobs died.
I also leveled skinning there on my hunter and druid. I was probably there for 3 hours total and no drops.

Re: Crimson Whelpling Drop Rate?
Wowhead is showing drop rates between 0.01 and 0.03 % on different mobs. Means on average the Whelpling is going to drop somewhere between 3,300 and 10,000 kills.
Not being very lucky with the RNG, I figured I could farm enough gold to buy one on the AH in a fraction of the time it would've taken to loot one.

All the Whelps have ~100% drop fra AH..
Much better to Waste a few gold, that a huge chunk of time

Re: Crimson Whelpling Drop Rate?
Yes. This one is tempting to try to farm, because the mobs respawn so quickly. It's still such a low droprate that it could take many hours though, if not days.
I have visited the area a couple of times and killed mobs there for a bit, but have never had any luck myself.

Haven't seen one of these listed on my AH in the three years I've been on it, checking 2-3 times a day for pets.

@ Gank, the last Crimson Whelp was listed on your AH 3 days ago. The last unlearned Tiny Crimson Whelp was listed on the 21st of March. Make sure you check both pet sections of the AH since some of the pets can be listed without learning and caging.
Re: Crimson Whelpling Drop Rate?
Just checked a few high population realms and there are some Crimsons on AH, Proudmoore @ 12.5K, Area 52 @ 13K, Stormrage @ 13.5K. Didn't see any on the five medium-pop realms I looked at.Ganksinatra wrote:Haven't seen one of these listed on my AH in the three years I've been on it, checking 2-3 times a day for pets.
