It's odd that the forum doesn't do this already. I'm not sure why that page is unaffected by the current settings. We'll look into it, but I'm not sure if it will be feasible.

It's been years since I used the default phpbb theme but I could have sworn it was there on that page as well. Would love to point you at the template tag (in this case L_MARK_FORUMS_READ) docs but well phpbb doesn't have the best documentation.
