Patch 5.3.0 | Posted: May 21, 2013
The Unborn Val'kyr can spawn in any zone in Northrend. It is not possible to force this elusive wild pet to spawn, and there is only a small chance that the spawn can be affected by players capturing one.

@ Schwank....why would you bother looking for a better quality one to upgrade? Upgrading a poor with a stone is the same as upgrading an uncommon. Â This pet is so hard to find, leave them for someone without one...geez
Caught this beautiful undead lady this morning around 6 am server time. She was at 46.0, 42.0 NW of Utgarde Keep in Howling Fjord. I would suggest using a level 25 Aquatic pet with healing capabilities and surge, as it doesn't do much damage. After she cast Haunt I just swapped pets so there would be no chance of of my pet dying and killing her! (Accidentally killed 2 before because of this mistake.) Good luck, and happy hunting!
I don't have an Unborn Val'kyr, but have battled many and have found out the best pets against them:
1. Aquatics - all Val'kyr attacks are weak against them
• Suggested: Any breed of Mongoose (evasion tactic, Survival, speed for 1st attack - then again, a Val'kyr's highest S is 244)
2. Critters - for strong attacks against undead
• Sug: Any breed of Rabbit (evasion tactic, survival move, Flurry)
3. Aq. w/ Crit. Att.
• Sug: P/P Yellow-bellied Bullfrog (only Frog with P/P)
I found mine in Sholazar Basin just north west of the Spearborn Encampment along the grassy ridge by the ocean.
At a quarter hp it used Haunt and "died" which gave me a heart attack thinking I had lost my chance at catching it. I quickly looked up the ability and found out they return to life after 4 rounds. So after beating the extra pets I was able to catch the Val'kyr.
Note: You need to be careful with Haunt, if the pet being haunted dies before the ability ends the Val'kyr dies as well.
Finally found one and jumped into battle.  Only poor, but I'm not going to pass it up considering how long I've been looking.  Anubisath Idol hit it once 25%, again 25%, again KRACKTOW!!!! OMG WTH!!!  I think I just had a heart attack!!!  I wanted it just a bit lower, not critted to death!!!  Unborn Val'kyr came back to life with 8hp.  THANK THE WOW GODS!!! But oh my giddy heart...
Most comments are many years old. This can create problems if a pet's stats or abilities change.Â
This pet is an example of that. Back when haunt cost nothing, it was really good. However, now the Val'Kyr loses 50% of its life with haunt, it is useless. Sure, it does some damage over 4 rounds but there are other pets (like darkmoon tonk, lil'ragnaros, iron starlette) that do more damage without losing 50% of their life.Â
There needs to be some moderator on the site who resets the ratings on a vastly changed pet so they don't remain as #1 battle pet after a huge nerf. If they are the best still they will get the votes, but many of the top pets have been changed a ton and no longer are the pets people voted for.
I have 3 of these now. I am currently holding one for a friend.
Important: If you engage her and she is using Unholy Ascension as her slot 3, DISENGAGE and engage her again, I just did, while holding her and she went from slot 3 UNHOLY ASCENSION to HAUNT.
You won't have to worry about her commiting suicide then :)
Happy Hunting!
The unborn Valk will ALWAYS be the first pet (thus, he WILL be the "paw" pet).
Though she is a great pet, all around, she is ideal for PVP. I run a team that I call "Odin's Own," comprising of the Valk and two Crows (Huginn and Muninn).
The UA paired with high speed crows hitting hard is unstoppable.
Borean Tundra (47,7) 615p server
Storm Peaks (41,78) 701pm server
Crystalsong (18,57) 720pm server
Sholazar Basin (44,69) 745pm server
All confirmed captures. A few things to consider: They were all in succession, and the "click at the same time" method DOES work. We gave 5 guildies the pet off 1 spawn. it either despawns because theres a click limit, or it depends on who gets the serverside spawn or the copy spawn, hard to tell. Spawn timers suggest 15 min increments. Hope it helps!
So I got mine today (4/16/2016).
As of 6.0:
It's still powerful but these are pretty critical to note right now.
I would like to share my modification to the very successful marco that people are using. (I'm sorry, at this point, I don't know who to give credit to for the original.)
/cleartarget
/tar Unborn
/focus
/stopmacro [noexists]
/script PlaySound("RaidWarning")
/run RaidNotice_AddMessage(RaidBossEmoteFrame,"Unborn Val'kyr", ChatTypeInfo["RAID_WARNING"])
If you have Track "Focus Target" turned ON on your minimap, you'll see the specific location of the /focused spawn.
I did some Haunt tests:
It will damage you for your remaining health.
It can miss - if it does, you just die.
You are dead when haunting a target. So you ignore all damage/healing, but will lose if no pets are alive.
If the pet you haunt dies while haunt is active you die.
If haunt ends on the target, you are reborn with as much health as you had when you used it.
You can use it during undead passive. If haunt then expires before killing the target, you will be reborn alive with 1 health.
[headtilt] How can one of these be male?

Okay people enough with the "WTF I DONT GET IT?! WHY THIS RANKED" comments. This game is many years old and so is this site, and changes happen that aren't reflected in nearly a decade of user submitted votes. Unborn Val'kyr at one time was the most sought after catchable pet in the entire game. It was supremely OP. Blizz nerfed it into the ground and it's no longer OP. End of story. Voting it down is the only way to remove it from the top ranks.
Maybe everyone knows this but I just discovered it for myself. Have Val'Kyr cast haunt (dies),bring in pet with consume corpse for a free heal and val still comes back to life!
