The Darkmoon Rabbit mob spawns in a cave on the Darkmoon Island, which is accessible only when the Darkmoon Faire is open. This mob is an elite raid boss that has roughly 174,454,800 health. Players will receive the achievement That Rabbit's Dynamite! after defeating the rabbit.
The Darkmoon Rabbit is a reference to the Rabbit of Caerbannog in the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

This rabbit is much stronger than it looks.
No interactivity with Murkalot. This needs to be addressed.
Beware of Solarbeam from the realm Uther!!! He/she made a group for the darkmoon rabbit, kicked half of us while in combat, then at the end changed it to master loot and took the pet then hearthed. Afterwards we found out he was trying to sell it in trade. Guys, this pet has a long spawn timer and it only comes once a month. We all want this pet for one reason or another but this way is not the way to go. Have respect for others please.
With Patch 6.2.2. this is now set on personal loot. This means that multiple people can win a pet with each kill (also, no more unscrupulous raid leaders becoming loot ninjas). If the body shows to be lootable to you, you've won a Darkmoon Rabbit of your own!

Trying really hard to like this guy for pet battles, seeing how silly rare he is, I got the 4/14 pet breed, so he's a mix of great speed and decent health, which is good because he has an insane amount of speed to begin with... I open with the Dodge ability, lead into a Huge, Sharp Teeth and follow up with Burrow once Dodge wears off, so far it's useful as he's able to a mitigate a lot of damage.
Spawning times are earlier than previously noted, He was up when Darkmoon Faire went life this week in mop at 9pst sunday Then spawned again during the day sometime on Monday. Does not spawn after server reset. **update** Happily Purchased this pet today for 40k but I feel his graphics really should be updated, he looks 2d and he needs to make an on click noise like a rabbit screech or a growl. The actual pet itself feels cheap despite his legenday status.

I'm so pumped I just won my own. Â I was pretty dejected after losing out on my last attempt with a 93 roll and the winner rolled a 94. Â This time I won with only an 84 roll, go figure. So awesome to finally have him :)Â

Thanks for the down-vote. Â I power-leveled him, and even at 13 he was able to go up against lvl 23 roaches. Â Once his speed is comparable to the opponent, use Dodge, and keep the DoT up :)
For those who don't realize it, this pet comes in multiple breeds. I didn't bother to check...just assumed all were the same. Anyway, might be important for those who want the best possible breed, which is 5/15 in this case. (I'm assuming most think 4/14, 5/15, 6/16 are the best due to point distribution)
This is probably my luckiest catch when it comes to pets. For months I swam across the water during Darkmoon looking for the Rabbit. The very first time I saw him, I asked to join the group that was attacking him. I joined the group, helped kill him, rolled him and named him Monty. I couldn't believe the luck I had. Let's hope I have the same with more :^)Â
I brought mine from AH. I honestly can make 30k much faster than have a chance of putting a raid together and winning the roll. I wish more than 1 would drop but it is what it is.
I named mine 'Super Villain" and love it. Totally worth it. Love the blood around the mouth detail.Â
Defeated rabbit yesterday with no pet drop, so I opened a ticket with a gm and he let me know that it is no longer a guaranteed drop and that you must be Lvl 119+ in order to be eligible for the drop. :(
The AH gold prizes of Darkmoon Rabbit are falling down dramatically in several realms, even the  S/S level 25.Â

To you out there who's camping the cave and whatnot I only say: "server hopping" ^_^
You do not need a lot of people to kill the boss. We did it in a group of 6 people (about 3 am server time >.<, late night? early morning?). I was on my hunter, pet tanked. With my "luck" I thought I would just buy it from AH, but it dropped for me. Good luck to everybody.
I got extremely lucky and picked this guy up for 5k via posting in trade I was looking to buy. Got a B/B breed, but seems to do ok. Used him with Chi Chi and a Valk in PVP and works great, even against death adders. Wild magic, feign death, doom, haunt, big sharp teeth and dodge, then repeat.Â
This guy works very well for defeating the Thundering Pandaren Spirit, who as most know can be very annoying. Â I have the 9,19 breed but it still allows him to go first. Start with Burrow then Dodge then Scratch until Burrow is off cooldown. The next Burrow will probably kill him depending on how lucky you are with crits.Â
