Pet Treats stack for leveling!

Post by Jrallen01 » April 28th, 2014, 8:07 am

I wanted to power level a pet so I did the lesser pet treat by mistake so I said wtf and clicked on pet treat too. I have a double buff.

Did A battle on Aki the chosen and my pet went from 11 to 20 with an 8500 exp bump.

20-23 with 6700 exp.
25 with 1 more battle. over 2k exp, but it was cut off because of lvl 25 cap.

Yep, this has been a commonly known thing for quite a bit. There is also a lesser known Darkmoon Faire Top Hat that gives an additional 10% as well.

Just note that levels 10 & 11 will see the most EXP gains versus any other level when fighting a Pandaren tamer. Details are here if you want to know more:

Hi .. a lot of math to cipher through in that link ! Simple question for those that know... (I expect the answer will be no) ..but can you use 2 lesser (25%xp) biscuits simultaneously to gain an extra bonus?

No. Trying to use a second lessor pet treat just throws an error and consumes the treat.

Wait, what? Darkmoon hat gives 10% to pet battle xp as well? I did not know that. Does the carousel buff work the same, or only the top hat specifically?

I also used the pet treats for months after pandaria came out before I discovered (thanks to a post on this forum) that they stacked.

Carousel buff doesn't buff pet exp but the hat should. I've tested the carousel and it matches what I can see in Wowhead.

Specifically anything that adds "aura #420", which is the pet exp buff.

I've been losing the hat out of my bags after exiting the DMFaire ..does it only work if the faire is in town or do you have to use it only on the dmf grounds?

They are tagged as requires darkmoon fare and normally that would mean they disappear when the fare ends. I wouldn't expect you to loose them just for leaving the fare. The buff should last past the end of the fare if you use it on an alt you only use for a tamer so they don't stay logged in long. I know my panda monk still has the wheee buff up from the carousel.

The 10% buff from the Safari Hat and DMF Hat do stack.

EDITED*** edit to remove incorrect information.

This is incorrect. They do indeed stack. It was one of my testing points when generating the guide. With a level 11 carry pet, I normally get 8787 experience with the hat and both pet treats. When I added the top hat to that scenario I got over 9200 exp with a level 11 carry pet.

In terms of losing them, I only ever lost them when the DMF ended. I was able to take them out of the fair and fly around pandaria. I used 3 this last fair, all on Pandaria, Northrend, and Cata tamers.

Pretty sure it stacks with all of the pet buffs, including safari hat, lesser pet treat, and pet treat. Despite it being called a hat it is in fact a consumable. The carousel buff does not grant additional pet xp.

That's odd because I thought I tried the same thing (both treats and the safari hat + adding the top hat) and didn't get any boost at all. MMMM well my memory does suck so maybe I mixed up the top hat buff with the carousel buff, I'll have to test it at the next DMF again.

Looking at Wowheads database both the Safari Hat and Top Hat have the exact same spell effect and I didn't think you could have 2 of the same effects at one time, am I wrong in that assumption?

Both Hats spell effect-
Apply Aura: ?? (Aura #420)
Value: 10

Both of the food treats have that same spell effect as well but they also stack with the hat. They have different feeder values, but it's the same effect (aura #420).

I saw that but was thinking that because the values where different it made it not the exact same effect.

Re: disappearing DMF hats

*puts on Morpheus glasses*

What if I told you you could use the hats after DMF ended?

It's quite simple, too! You just don't take the hats out of the Darkmoon Prize boxes. See, the boxes don't disappear when the faire ends. They can be stored, mailed - heck, they aren't even account-bound. I hoard them, and when I need to level an alt, I just mail it on over, and the hat is in there for use.

The clincher is you have to take the hat out and use it for the buff before switching zones/entering an instance [if the hat is directly in your inventory and no longer in the prize box]. Otherwise, it will disappear, as normal.

I actually never knew the hats disappeared post-faire time until I zoned into a dungeon without popping the buff and saw it was gone. I contacted a GM who said that was normal, but... as it turns out, they didn't even know you could keep them if they were still boxed up. Go figure.

Since it is Darkmoon Faire week, I wasted 10 tokens on a hat to do some tests:

level 22 carry pet with no buffs: 3100 exp
level 22 carry pet with just a safari hat: 3410 exp
level 22 carry pet with safari hat + darkmoon top hat: 3720 exp

I already tested this back in February, but wanted to re-verify due to the discussion.

Result: Safari Hat and Darkmoon Top Hat do indeed stack.

Thanks for doing that as I haven't had a chance to test it yet this week. I stand corrected and edited my post to remove the false information. :)
