Engineering Pets

We should be seeing the first of 5.4 engineering pets on Tuesday from the engineers lucky enough to the schematic on the first day. I hope the pets will be BoE and not BoP and that the prices will not be too insane for them. I still will have another month to wait for my pets seeing as I will make the mount first.

I learned that today and I admit I am a bit surprised by the information. I believe thoses are the first profession produced pets that aren’t cageable or were they others before that?

Engineering already had two other BoP pets [pet]Lil' Smoky[/pet] and [pet]Pet Bombling[/pet].. as an added bonus, they were based on your engineering spec, so Gnomish engineers got Smokey while Goblin engineers got the Bombling. AND you got the schematic by renewing your membership card, so you got to destroy then renew your card several times to get the renewal gift which MIGHT contain the schematic..
Much later they changed the schematics to drops..
Then, Blizz did make them BoU (although of course that was AFTER I had dropped herbalism and leveled engineering TWICE for the pets.. ah well..) so I am hoping they do the same with these soon.. I "hope" that Blizz made them BoP for a little while as a bone to engineers to be the cool kids for a little while, then switch them to BoU.. but I guess we will wait and see..

To be fair, those pets were only restricted when they were purely vanity items. Engineers of either specialisation (and even non Engineers) have been able to use both pets since the pet battle system was introduced, afaik.

This really does seem like an oversight to me. If I'm not mistaken, it makes them currently the only "profession-restricted" battle pets in the game at the moment. Considering that the other profession items crafted with the new "time-sink" tradeskill cooldowns seem to be BoE, I'm not really sure what their thinking is on these pets.

I got 2 engineers cranking away and I'm seriously thinking about just making two mounts and AHing them before making 30 days more CDs for my own mount and pets. I've always viewed pet collecting as a journey and not a race so I don't mind waiting the extra 30 days if it means I got some gold to buy other pets I may need.
