Pet changes (5/8-10)

Post by Duerma » May 8th, 2012, 9:53 pm

-All pets have at least one ability, based on their type:
Beast - Bite
Critter - Scratch
Dragonkin - Breath
Elemental - Burn
Flying - Slicing Wind
Humanoid - Punch
Magic - Beam
Mechanical - Bolt
Undead - Diseased Bite

-Some pets that only had 1 ability before have a full set (ie, Crimson Whelpling)
-Pet tooltips simply say "Battle pet - <type>" and no longer include the level. Pets that cannot be battled have no information in their tooltip. Pets that are capturable have "Capturable" in green text under the initial tooltip.
-Pets appear to be retaining damage in between battles.
-The chatlog states "[Pet Battle] <Pet> is now Your active pet. [Pet Battle] <pet> is now Enemy active pet." upon starting a pet battle.
-Fledgling Buzzards in Redridge now have the green tamable icons on the minimap.
-Whether or not they are actually tamable, I could not tell you, because the first turn of a pet battle always crashes my client now. :(
-Shy Bandicoons are listed in the Pet Journal as being available in the Valley of the Four Winds. They do not have the tamable icon on the map, but you can battle them and they do have the green "tamable" cursor on mouse over. Again, I couldn't tell you if they were actually tamable. :P
-The third slot on your team now supposedly requires [Experienced Pet Battler], which is winning 50 pet battles. I have this achievement, though, and it is not unlocked. >.<

most likely placeholder abilities for most as I don't believe the crawling claw can bite :P

Yeah, placeholders, but it means that things you fight don't stand around like derps while you kick the crap out of them. :P

Battles no longer crash the client.
There's a little splash graphic midscreen when you start a battle.
Pet battle stuff is listed in the chat box in a much more readable manner
Trap lights up more noticeably when you can capture something.
If you fail a trap, the enemy pet will keep attacking your pet, so make sure your pet is at good health!
Shy Bandicoons in Valley of the Four Winds are indeed capturable.
When you capture something, you get a splash mid-screen like when you gain a level.

Congrats on your new Squirrel =P

Is the Pet-battling still a lv90 skill? I'm still annoyed that I missed learning it the other week -_-

Yep, still level 90. :( Sorry!

Bugs to be noted:
-Pets aren't gaining XP. :(
-Pets may get stuck at a certain health level if you freeze up during the battle or whatever. >.<

The net effect of these two bugs is that my level 11 pet is stuck at 1 HP, my level 6 pet is stuck at half health, and I can't level up anything else to be effective in battles.

Also: If your pet dies while trying to capture something, have your second pet pass to get the trap to light up again.
