Legendary Wild Pets?

My boyfriend told me the other night he ran into an orange pet in the wild, but it was too high level so he couldn't catch it. Is there really such thing? He said it was in orange text.

They are part of the new Beasts of Fable quest that you unlock after beating Aki. They can't be captured or killed by players.
