I have hoarded myself into a tough spot....

Post by Lvl99gamer » July 26th, 2016, 10:56 am

Hey all,

I got a few problems... First off, the pet collection window in WoW (and even this site) are so terrible that I can't get a good grasp of all the pets I've already collected so if anyone knows if there's a good add-on for that, please let me know because that single row pet thing they've got going on in WoW makes me cry tears of blood.

Secondly (and this may be more of a pet battle forum post but I'd rather not make multiple threads) I can only find the top battle pets on this site and not a complete ranking by battle points. I know high battle ratings aren't a great indicator for a pet's strength but I've already got too many pets to keep in mind and I have a very hard time deciding which pets I should lvl up and increase in rarity (especially now that charms are harder to get). Maybe it could help me get a better understanding of which must-have pets I still need to get as well.

Sorry for the selfish post but thanks for the time guys!

First recommendation, take a deep breath. It's not as bad as it looks, though it can be overwhelming. Let's try to get through this.

You currently have 199 unique pets, and 67 duplicates. A good start on a collection. You should probably go into http://www.warcraftpets.com/account/collection/ click on "Exclusions" and then "Manage Exclusions" to take out any region-specific pets you can't get, and other ultra rare ones, so that they don't stare you in the face every time you look at "Wanted"

First addon I would personally download is Rematch. Though the updated Pet Journal in the Legion pre-patch has added functionality, Rematch is going to allow you to save teams, and sort your pets in different ways. It also allows you to set up a leveling queue, so that you don't even have to think about it once you have it sorted. http://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14916 gives TONS of information about the addon, the developer is active on the site here and is GREAT about answering questions.

Next thing I would say is, don't try looking at all 266 pets at once. If you don't even know where to start, then looking at a list of 266 unsorted, some leveled pets will just overwhelm you more.

Also, you can use the "Collected" tab on that page I sent you to before to sort your collection by level or rarity, and filter it by family, or almost anything else you want. This helps immensely. I only use the in-game pet journal to find specific pets to put together a team, once I've decided what that team is going to be from other resources. I don't use it to search through and see what pets I have. Of course, my entire unique collection, except the nursery spider, is 25 and rare, so I don't have to figure out what to level next, so your mileage may vary.

http://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4674 is a great resource, with beginning pet battle stuff.

You have some good 25's that can get you started. I would recommend doing all the tamers you can every day to help you level, there are great leveling guides out there....but I'm not on my computer with bookmarks, and I don't have access to the links right now.

Check out this thread on the wow forums: http://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/18300093791 Some of the info will be out of date, because of the Legion changes, but it's still a pretty good list of handy pets.

Good luck, and remember, one pet at a time! Let me know if there's other specific information that would help you.

My goodness this is more than I dared to hope for! Thanks for your awesome reply, you answered pretty much every question I had. I'll try out your suggestions and attempt to make it all more manageable.

I've tried to take my pets a step further a few times now but every time I just got kinda overwhelmed and just set about getting whatever pet fell in my lap. But this should keep me covered for a bit!

Thanks again.

I'm glad it might be helpful, I was worried it might be too much information

One BIG hint from that list of pets on the battle.net forums:

Get yourself a Terrible Turnip and level it. Weakening blow can only bring a pet down to 1hp, so it is fantastic for capturing lower level wild pets.

You'll find that the people on this forum, and the battle.net pet battle forum, tend to be a bit nicer than people on the general forums...I don't know if it's the working together to achieve more aspect of pet collecting, that it's not as competitive as PvP or hard-core raiding (PvP pet battles notwithstanding), or just that people who collect pets tend to be more generous, nicer people, but I tend to find more answers here than anywhere else.

Welcome to the World of Pet Collecting. We're happy to have you. :)

Charms from PvP? I did not know that? I used to rely on doing pet dailies for my charms on 3 different garrisons but that is no longer a thing.

I haven't been keeping an extremely close eye on the legion changes but I can't believe I missed PvP charms, that's a pretty big deal.
