Looking for some help with starting to do the harder battles

Post by Hysteria » December 29th, 2014, 7:51 pm

I've mostly been a collector, I'm three pets away from having all the safari achievements, etc. I got discouraged when I work through all the pet trainers up to Pandaria, then I hit a wall and couldn't progress whatsoever. ( Lack of lvl25 choices on my behalf. )

So now I'm at the point where I want to start leveling up some teams. I think I have a decent selection to pick from, but I have some time to kill and am wondering what some good pets I can find in the open world would be to farm until I get rares? Like I have a rare Kun Lai Runt, that sort of thing.

Any help is appreciated. :)

A few good guides for you:

A great starter guide as it only uses two pets. Not the fastest fights but should work.
http://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4580

The most recent guide.
http://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=7556

An older guide that might not all be valid anymore but offers some other options:
http://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4314

On top of that there are a number of threads and guides on doing the achievement for carrying the elek pet through all the fights. If you've got the menagerie unlocked there are a number that can be good exp for power leveling pets too.

If you list specific fights I'm sure you'll get some input on what might work from your currently available pets.

A quick glance at your pets suggests that leveling your idol and getting a rare emerald whelpling would be good. A P/P whelpling is best but any breed should be good enough for the first guide. Those two pets are just this side of indestructible which is why the two of them can duo almost any fight.

Yea, those are good links with tons of great info to get you started. My advice is, level up your [url=http://www.warcraftpets.com/wow-pets/humanoid/miscellaneous/anubisath-idol/]Anubisath Idol[/url] right away! Also, next on your list should be hunting down an [url=http://www.warcraftpets.com/wow-pets/dragonkin/dragon-whelps/emerald-proto-whelp/]Emerald Proto-Whelp[/url] and leveling it as well. I tell all new tamers, those two pets are your key. You can easily handle the Pandaria tamers with just those two, so it opens up leveling carry pets off that. Then you can just go from there. I'm not super picky on the breed for the Dragon, mine is a P/S. Some will tell you that the pure P/P is the better one. I won't dispute that, but my point is that you'll be fine with any of them. So don't sweat it. It goes without saying that you'll need the Dragon to be rare. So either stone it, or hold out for a rare. They are not the easiest to find, so I took the one I got and stoned him.

Good luck!

Small disclaimer. I haven't used the idol/whelp strategy so I don't know for sure but I'd guess that an uncommon whelp would probably be good enough for most if not all of the fights if you don't have a stone and don't have any luck finding a rare.

I'd also recommend downloading Rematch. It is absolutely perfect for leveling up a bunch of pets with the trainers. It will save your teams. Automatically load them for you next time you fight them and has a leveling queue to make it easy to keep leveling up your next pet.

When it comes to the guides don't be afraid to try things out or adjust strategies slightly. For example the guide has a team for Aki that uses a h/h spirit crab and a P/P yellow moth. Those are probably the best options but any grab and a good flying pet should do. You might need a carry pet that can take a little bit of damage and finish off the last pet but taking the time to deal with that might be worth it when you are just starting out. The key for the crab is that Shell shield or any similar ability should completely negate the damage the first pet can do. It also prevents you from having the debuff up when the second pet comes out and uses call lightning on you and blocks the extra damage from call lightning. Almost anything with a shell shield type buff should be able to solo the first pet and take a good chunk out of the second pet which makes it much easier to carry a pet on the fight.

You should be able to get through the Pandarian trainers with an Idol and Emerald Whelp. You might have to twick things but that'll do really well for now. If you're needing help with capturing then having a corgi or turnip pet on whatever team is the best. Both have attacks that one kill the pety ou're trying to capture.

I know exactly where you are at because I felt like I was there a few weeks ago but really feel like I'm breaking through with moving from ok pet collector to pretty knowledgeable pet collector. It's tough because looking at the list of pets I haven't collected there are just some I will never be able to get since hey were anniversary gifts or I have to buy trading cards or they are retired.

I still come here though because there is so much out there I still need to learn and honestly, battle pets are the most fun part of WoW anymore to me.

I do find that having a Pet Menagerie 3 has been the biggest help with getting me over the hump with my collection.

First and foremost are the daily pet battles which several of the sets are great days for power leveling your pets. Like today's with Rockbiters. I don't have a level 25 Pandarian Water Spirit yet but I have a good combo that will help me get a bunch of level 20-24 pets up to 25.

Second of course is all the Pet Charms and the sheer number of Marked Flawless Battle Stones. Before PM3, I would farm all day looking just for the rare and not caring much about the breed. Honestly I look back and saw that as a great waste of time. Now I collect because I have learned (thanks to the comments on this website) that not all rares are the same. So if I find a breed that I know will be useful for daily pet battles or when I move to PvP, I'll snag the best breed no matter what the quality, because I have plenty of charms to get the quality upgraded to rare on my own.

I did a spreadsheet of all the Pandaria Tamers and here's what I found that I used the most:
* SNAILS - I used my Rapana Whelk for ever Spirit tamer against those elementals and he'd kill them without breaking a sweat.
* OOZELINGS - Best friend against flying. And with absorb they can usually take out 2 tamers.
* WHELPS - Make sure you have a Nexus or Emerald Proto or both. I don't think there were many magic pets over in Pandaria but these Whelps are so versatile.
* CHROMIUS and Anusibuth Idol - Good investment from the Auction House
* MOTHS - Great against Aquatics - make sure you have different breeds. The Fable Otter (H/S, S/S) you want fast moths but other aquatics you'll want strong months (H/P, P/S)
* One or Two top flight mechanical.

My first post here :)

I was there too.
I got to 100, had a few pets and figured Id have a look at the menagerie.
My highest pet was 14 at the time an Azure Whelp.
The outcome motivated me to get some 25s.

Luckily I had a bit of a head start through having collected pets long before the battle pet addition to the game, and I have sat on max gold for ages due to not playing seriously (no cost) and mining/herbing through the last expansions.

I followed the Arcane Eye method to get a pet to 25 (cant provide link as I need 8 posts)

Then, shame on me, i bought a few 25s of the AH, but that was no fun so I started doing my own leveling.
Now, all tamers are taken care of, and the Menagerie Dailies, while not trivial, are beatable.

Next on my list now is the 600 Pets collection, looooooong way to go.

But to answer your question, the guides here and on wowhead are generally great, though many times reliant on specific (rare) pets.
I generally go there for an idea, then search what pets I have with similar traits.

Most of the time the double counter pets will get you through anything (cant provide link as I need 8 posts)
Just search double counter pets in google.

Hey mate, saw you were looking for some guidance for the more challenging Grand Masters and Tournaments even! Heres a few resources to guide you.

First, go thru the leveling experience. There are so many different ways to get to the end game. DO what works for you. Heres a guide to the initial 1-25 Horde and Alliance side leveling : http://www.wowpetbattle.com/powerleveling.html

Once you have your first 25s, then you have to decide what you want to do IE: Grand masters? Celestial Tournament? Pet Menagerie? Once you make that choice, you can start. Heres the order they came in: Grand Masters MOP : http://www.wowpetbattle.com/grand_masters_main.html then Beasts of Fable MOP: http://www.wowpetbattle.com/beastsoffable.html then it was the Celestial Tournament : http://www.wowpetbattle.com/celestialtournament.html

From there, WOD added the 6 Grand Masters: http://www.wowpetbattle.com/warlords.html The Scrapping Dailies: http://www.wowpetbattle.com/menagerie.html and an achievement called An Awfully Big Adventure : http://www.wowpetbattle.com/plushie.html

In between, you have the Dark Moon Faire : http://www.wowpetbattle.com/darkmoonfaire2.html

As for starting out, Id say get a list of all the pets your going to find most useful and reoccur in fights : http://www.warcraftpets.com/community/f ... 046#p62046

Then all you need to do is pick a place to power level them, the easiest is in Pandaria here : http://www.wowpetbattle.com/speedleveling.html Located in Mistfall Village easiest done with 2 fliers strong against aquatics like the DMF Crow or Gilnean Raven. Heres a Video Guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ycGnWyngao Or you can go to Gromgar and circle the Devils Tower thing near Gargra here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfhLLFJZ8xA

As for forum help, Seek [profile]Jerebear[/profile], [profile]Chibimage[/profile], or myself [profile]Elfuego[/profile]. Were all here to help!

I hope it helps!
