Site Suggestion

Post by Jaladar » December 22nd, 2018, 10:18 am

I know people are going to say "check wowhead" but since this is the place for warcraft pets...

Is there any chance of getting a small spot on the front page to show what pet tamers are up in the menagerie and on Dalaran? We all look forward to Squirt and Sir Galveston but sometimes finding that info isn't easy, especially for Dalaran, unless someone posts it. Now with the BFA tamer nerfs it seems even more important.

Just a thought. Thanks

I also have a suggestion, and I agree with the OP. Can you keep the list of new pets up for a bit longer, rather than dumping them once new pets come out? The new BFA pets are still important to a lot of us who haven't managed to get them all yet. And the list made it easy to see what was missing. But now the patch is out, and that list is gone. Keeping a new pets list up for several months would be a great idea.

I can see why that would be difficult. World Quests come and go irregularly, and are different for US and EU. Wowhead fills their maps by uploads from people running the Wowhead client; it would be a lot to ask of somebody to keep checking Wowhead every X hours and copying the information here, and it would be a big job to write and distribute a custom client.

The menagerie follows a predictable pattern, and Xu-Fu does keep track of that for US and EU here: https://wow-petguide.com/index.php?m=Menagerie

I can see a couple of approaches to this.

1. One would be to add Patch Introduced as a field in the database, to make the list https://www.warcraftpets.com/wow-pets/filter/# filterable by the patch they were created in, like https://www.wowhead.com/battle-pets?filter=3:9;2:2;80100:0#petspecies

2. Another would be by making a new section within News, and archiving pet announcement posts there. Or just a page, with links to the announcements.

3. But the one I like most is crowdsourced. recently, we have had threads like this:
https://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17327
in which someone lists and discusses new pets, and other people chime in. I feel this is a much better presentation for someone looking to collect, because not only are the pets listed, but their desirable breeds and attributes get an airing as well.

Would some more regularised version of a thread like that be of interest?

P.S. I knew there was one for 8.0: https://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17756

Now, I notice both of those are for wild pets, since that's where we mostly see a choice of breeds, which is where decisions have to be made. Maybe threads like that but including drops as well, maybe with less discussion?
