I've just gotten into Beta and I am so excited to start battling and finding new pets. But all I've been able to do so far is bind the pet journal.

What are they next steps? I'm lost.

Pet Battles haven't been implemented on the beta yet. It might be a while before it's actually available for testing. But if you're interested in trying out the renaming feature, just right click on the pets in your Pet Journal and give it a go.

You can also find Wild Pets out in the world, but the pet tracking is currently disabled so it's a bit hard!

I'm guessing that when we 'train' in Pet Battling, we'll get back the Wild Pet Targeting and crosshairs when clicking on an appropriate pet to battle... It's interesting (and a little bit frustrating) to watch it all unfold...

You now get a paw over the wild pet you want to fight, and it seems to try to create a mini instance.

A Pet Battle Trainer is in Goldshire on the beta now. It costs 80 gold to train and you must be at least level 5. Tracking the wild pets currently costs 8 copper and requires at least level 5. (Prices subject to change.)

It looks like pets are zone and level appropriate, so perhaps we will have to grind through different zones. Mulgore critters are level one, while Booty Bay ones are level nine.

The camarea just does a swing around zoom.
It appears the catch part isn't working yet, but the battling is.
A few notes:
Not all pets have skills yet. In my current team I only have 1 skill out of a possible 9.

Pets before the patch seem to have been wiped from the journal, but not your toons list of known spells, so to get a pet you either need an alt you hasn't leant the pet yet to learn it (adding it to the account wide journal) or re-transfer over you pet heavy toon.

Catching doesn't seem to work yet, it just knocks them out.

battling is in? O.o i've been trying to battle wild pets, is it that PvP battles only or something? also i can't access any of my pets lol it says i don't have any -.-

It is in, pet battle trainer is in the starting towns (Eg Goldshire, Brill)
Need Lv5, 90g before discount.

Any pets before the patch are wiped, you need to re-learn them (or get an alt to as it recalls you have learnt it in the past) or re-transfer your toon over.

already xfered over my main pet collector, still 0 pets. Re-learning them doesn't seem to work either as i just learned core-hound pup on a toon and it didn't get listed as a collected pet.

Odd, works fine for me. I had my monk learn the crazy cat ladies pets and they trigger fine.
Make sure you are opening the companion journal (you need to bind a key to it)

I just copied over my main and now have 193 pets to choose from.
I'm on Lost Isles in case that makes a difference.

Dosen't work for me either, same problem as Gnomey. Ponder...

Have you leant Pet Battling from a trainer like the one in Goldshire?
I learnt all of my pets and transfered a toon over after one of mt toons had learnt pet battling.

Yup, I learned it. Might try deleting a few toons and transferring a couple from live. No matter what I do, it's always 0 pets in my journal.

seems like a massive troll to me, i see no proof of it anywhere..

I believe him, a few other people on the MmoChamp/Wow forums say they can battle.

'tis a shame you can't capture yet, but still not bad.

Currently using the Albino Snake, Blue Moth & Dark Whelping as they all have there skills.

Btw: What's the name of the Warcraft Pets guild on Lost Isles (Alliance) I can't recall so haven't joined yet.
