Slippy ?

I just got Slippy from Transmute....I put rare stone too it...that went fine it went to rare but then I applied a Ultimate battle stone too Slippy and it only leveled up too level 2...I tried to apply another battle stone but I get a message says Slippy is max level. Anyone have issues like this.
