tamer speed challenge (win 20k!)

crossposting from wow forums --

I got bored and decided to try beating the Pandaria tamers in as few turns possible. Here are my best times so far. If you beat me, and post a SS proving it, then I will pay you 20k on Illidan(H) (for the first person to beat my time on a particular tamer, and this offer is only good until WoD).

Aki: 6 turns

Hyuna: 5 turns

Moruk: 5 turns (from Sepsis)

5 turns (from me)

Nishi: 7 turns

(new time 081014! this is pretty good now)

Shu: 6 turns

Yon: 5 turns

Zusshi: 7 turns

Please pay no attention to the Murkalot in all of those teams. He is not overpowered or anything like that.

*edit* Beat Nishi in 7; upping the reward since I think these times are really tough to get now.
*edit 081214* updated with 5 round Moruk kills, first from Sepsis, 2nd from me. Also got Aki and Shu down to 6.

Absolutely impressively done. Murkalot is really good at augmenting other pets, should really shine on destroying the troublesome tamers in WoD.

Thank you. I edited OP's title to include the reward.

If people are interested in tackling this challenge, please let me know -- I will answer questions about team comps/etc. I am genuinely curious how fast these tamers can be beaten, so I will help work out strategies even if it costs me 10k. In particular I think Nishi is very tough due to the healing elementals, and I'm not really satisfied with my time on that one.

A little disappointed as I was hoping to find a new comp or two that works better than what I currently use in order to cut down my daily tamer run, but alas I don't have Murkalot so I'm not going to be touching those times.

I thought I had done Nishi in 9 rounds with a lucky pump crit killing the turnip before it can submerge, but now that I just wrote out how each round would go in that scenario I may be misremembering it as it looks to me like that would still be a 10 round kill. There may be a way for me to do it in 9 rounds, but I've already done my dailies for today so I can't try it out.

The nishi one confuses me. It looks like you had two round 10's. One where you killed Toothbreaker with blizzard and one where you killed the worm with boobytrapped present

thats not his fault but blizzard for not reseting the round counter properly

I can't say it's impossible without Murk, but I suspect it is.

Yes, the submerge is really annoying and costs a lot of time. I thought about fishing for that lucky Pump crit to avoid it, but I was afraid I'd then be unable to kill the grub before it burrowed. So instead I decided to use those Submerge turns to set up a minefield and try to kill the grub instantly when it swapped in. I definitely haven't explored all the possibilities for Nishi yet.

Currently, when a pet dies, the combat log re-announces what turn it is, and then the new pet swaps in. I think this changed recently, but I have no idea when. The old behavior was that the game would create a new turn when a pet swapped in. So the new version is advantageous. In this case, the grub swaps in at the end of round 10 and dies instantly, instead of creating a turn 11.

Wow... this thread makes my strategies feel awfully lethargic!

To be fair, I'm using all 25s here. Hopefully that was clear. My leveling strats are much slower.

I suppose I never thought of that. I'm always leveling on the trainers too. Still don't think my "go to" strategies aren't anywhere near this quick :D

ok, after using pen and paper, I know I can beat your time on nishi, and can do tomorow, but just 1 question. how do I get the pet battle info? is there a need for an addon, or some other trick?

It's the ingame pet battle combat log, the tab to the right of the regular combat log. Right click that tab, select 'undock window', then you can resize it, preferably all the way. The things I need to see are the tamer's last pet dying (and preferably the 2nd-to-last pet too), and the last line should be 'battle recovery healed X damage from your ____', which proves that the fight ended with your pet alive.

Also, I may spend a little more time working on Nishi tonight....

OK you inspired me! I got Nishi in 9 turns this time, using a Murk team and fishing for an Armageddon crit to kill the grub on the backline. If I could just get a Steam Vent crit on the turnip, it would have been a 7 turn kill, but alas.

If you can tie me at 9 turns I'll still pay out 5k (and obviously if you beat 9 turns I'll pay out the full 10k). GL!

while I did screw up, I will try again tomorow, so you just wait :)

I am waiting! But meanwhile I went back and used some brute force. I waited for a crit on Toothbreaker so I could skip those painful underground turns. I got it down to 7:

Keep going though! I'm still offering 5k for any fight 8 rounds or lower. Nishi is just that annoying.

Also I upped the reward for outright beating my time to 20k on any one tamer.

That's still pretty good! -- better than I could do a few days ago. I'm curious what your other 2 pets were, and how you handled the Turnip's submerge (e.g. did you blitz him before he could submerge or did you use those turns for Raindance+Acid Rain?).

Lmk what toon on Illidan(H) and I'll send 5k. I can also give you a pet(s) of comparable value if you'd prefer. I can work off your warcraftpets profile if that's up to date.

Great idea, i'd love to see a list like this done for leveling pets. Least number of moves to level a pet(lower leveled pet the better).

I used Blackfuse bombling, rascal bot and jademist, spent first 2 turns armageddoning, then acid rain, geyser, rain dance, geyser (killing sunflower), geyser (critting, killing turnip), then geyser again (larva was low enough to die on that).
wouldve been less crit dependant with 2 p/p bombling, but having h/p bombling and a rascal bot I used what I had.

my list is accurate, though I dont think any pet Im missing is around 5k, azure/crimson whelps are too little, spineclaw/crawling claw too much, and red carp have varied way too much on what Ive seen.

(my toon there is named uglyblix)
