Question about Argent Gruntling / Argent Squire

About a month ago I was in a raid and while messing around with my Argent Gruntling. I decided to click a Flawless Humanoid Battle Stone on my Argent Gruntling and to my surprise, it actually made him rare. I decided to send a Battle Stone over to my Alliance character and did the same thing to my Argent Squire.
My question is how come Warcraftpets doesn't recognize them being rare, but the Armory does?
