I caught a Rare Warpstalker Hatchling. Why do you ask?

I've been looking for a rare Jungle Grub for ages but can only find uncommon ones.

Hours of grinding on each of the four with no luck. I noticed the Jungle Grub for example generally pops up about 1150 health(not sure exact numbers as I am not in game), but occasionally will come up with almost 1300 health. I am curious if this my have been a programming error where it's actually supposed to be rare mobs spawning but was somehow coded uncommon.

I've noticed a few rares are the same (or just slightly higher or even slightly lower) health than the uncommons, but the stats are way better. So I always journal the level health and stat total, the rares will stand out in either health, stats, or both. Just wondering if you passed over rares because the health was slightly lower, but stats were much better? But can't be sure as I got an uncommon lvl 23 1233 hp 442 stats.

I witnessed the same thing when hunting Tiny Twisters. The pet's rarity is not coded incorrectly; a difference of 150 Health can easily fall with in a single rarity grouping. This just means the Rare, when you finally find and catch one, will have an even greater Health stat than what you've already encountered.

Don't doubt just because your Rare seems elusive. It's just a stretch of poor luck. With so many pets to capture in the game, it's something every dedicated pet collector will encounter one, two, or several dozen times; your individual mileage will vary.

I'm using the PetBattleQualityGlow addon that pulls the rarity straight from the server rather than just going by stats (I did that initially but there's just so many pets that it got overwhelming), but I can't speak for the others.

If you can upgrade the pets not obtained in the wild; i will save the "rare upgrade" them.

That is what I was thinking. Given that there's room for 650 pets, it would take 650 stones ot upgrade them all. I'm happy for a stone here and there but hunting works well for more populous pets.

It is very easy to get a rare version of most of the pets so much so that rare is a pretty meaningless term, wIth the stones rare is a completly meaningless term.

Getting back on topic, I've seen a couple people confirm that jungle grubs can't be rare. I was thinking I had see one of the hedgehogs confirmed as not, but I can't find the post. So can anyone help with this issue? Can clouded or silent hedgehogs be rare? I'm working through this zone tonight, just finished up Krasarang Wilds and Valley of Four Winds ^_^

Jungle Grub, Silent Hedgehog and Clouded Hedgehog CANNOT be rare, at least at this point. Perhaps they will fix it in the future, but for now there is no reason to keep trying for one. There is a website that can actually show you the rarity available of each pet in game and also shows you the "breeds" available of each as well, although this gets a bit more complicated. But it does confirm that those 3 pets do not come in rare quality at the moment. http://schaffhauser.me/Warcraft#PetBreeds

It tends to be a bit more work to find a rare version of a wild pet rather than a common, uncommon or poor version. Since you are really going to want a rare quality pet if you also want to battle with it, making them truly rare (1/100 maybe?) would probably just encourage people to spend far too much time farming pets to get the ones that they really want to battle with. Could you imagine trying to get a rare mini-fernal if on top of the really hard to find spawn, it was also only a 1/100 chance that a spawn was rare quality. Ick!

Thanks :D
I picked up uncommons for all those, moved on and made good headway to getting Pandaria done. Looks like Kun Lai summit will be my home for a bit. Finding a rare chicken and mouse there is proving difficult.
