"That's right: this expansion features every loot card that we've seen in the game to date."

... I'll be buying a box or three.

I think I'll wait until details about rarity are available before I even consider dumping cash into this.

Atleast now we don't have to search for those old Drums of War TCG packs, or any of the other pre-cata sets for that matter, to find loot cards that we need :)

Excellent, hopefully this will mean a sharp price drop on the AH.

Imagining a world where the Soul Trader sells for less than 100k is a startling thought!

From Wowtcgloot.com:
"We have just received news that the next WoW TCG expansion "Reign of Fire" (RoF) will not contain any new loot, instead it will contain random loot from all 20 previous expansions. Since this expansion is the final in the "Timewalkers" block that pays tribute to past heroes and personalities in the Warcraft universe, this loot change also makes a special tribute to all previous TCG loot. Loot insertion rates have also been increased, the super common will be increased from 1:11 to 1:9, and the rarest loot will be increased from two per case up to four."

So possible 3 to 4 common cards per box instead of the old 2 to 3.

Hopefully this does bring down the prices on some of the older pets.

I am in the same boat... I am not able (even if I were willing) to pay the prices being asked for some of those old TCG pets (either in game or RL$). This news sounds like I might actually be able to get the ones I am still missing from my collection.

Now if there was a way to get CE pets without paying $2,000 for a sealed vanilla CE box

Maybe Blizzard will decide to offer digital upgrades for the older CEs (the way they have done for Mists).

One can only hope.

I think this just became my new reward carrot for staying on schedule for my RL projects! Very exciting, trying not to get my hopes up too much though.

Scheduled for release July 23 of this year.

I'm actually considering buying a box, but only if it's cheaper than ebay prices for some of the more rare pets. I've never purchased an entire box of cards before, though, so does anyone with more experience have a rough estimate of what it might cost?

According to ICv2 (i cannot post a link to the article :/ ) they re-organized the loot "rarity" (= common, uncommon, rare loot). 20 previous sets means from each rarity 20 loot cards, but the distribution is as follows: 26C, 24U, 10R

perhaps we will see spectral kittens and ethreal treaders for everyone?

I was kinda thinking the same. According to http://www.wowtcgloot.com/betrayal_of_the_guardian.htm the latest booster cartons are as cheap as $70 (MSRP is $3.99 per pack x 36 packs per box = $143.64.)

I purchased a sealed box of the old outlands of fire back in the day, I was hoping for a mount haha but didn't get anything... so just remember this if you buy a box it's not guaranteed that you'll get any loot at all :| that cost me about 100$

I'm on the fence on this one: will the additional cards drive down prices, or will people succumb to greed and try and maintain the ceiling prices currently for the stuff you see on the likes of e-bay?

I ask this, as I was 2 clicks of making a purchase for one, when I saw this post. My inner geek then decided to hold back, but do people genuinely think this will affect prices? Will we see more on the AH for a more reasonable price?

Opinions on a post-card please...

Keep in mind that even though they've increased the chances to get a rare, the chances of getting a particular rare are still lower than they would have been with their release set. So while we may see a lot more loot cards hitting the market, they will be split between all of the previous sets. I would expect prices to drop on release, and then stabilize at just a little under the price they are now.

Good point! Just some quick and dirty calculations for Spectral Tiger Cub:

originally 1 in 264 packs
loot rates are doubled (1/132) in the current release, but
now it's competing with 20 prior expansions (1/(132*20) = 1 in 2640)

Also, this is assuming that the loot cards are split *evenly* among the prior expansions: it's possible that particular expansions or loot cards are underrepresented.

The original chances for a few others:
Ethereal Soul-Trader: 1 in 264
Dragon Kite: 1 in 363
Rocket Chicken: 1 in 181
Tuskarr Kite: 1 in 132
