What is the one pet I should upgrade?

I just received a flawless battle stone. What is the one pet/breed I should be sure to burn this on? It does not need to be limited to a pet in my collection, as I am relatively new and am still building my journal.

[pet]Unborn Val'kyr[/pet]. It have some quite nice abilities that have much potential in interesting combos. And you will -never- find enough of them to hit upon a random rare, especially with so many people hunting them.

The answers for this might be different for different people, and will almost always depend on what pets you have!

There are many great pets that already come only in rare. There are many great battle pets that you must capture, and depending on your server and your luck you might want to farm your favorites until you find a rare naturally, or grab the first of the breed you want and use your stone.

Also, depending on whether you are going to do a lot of the trainer dailies, you might get a lot of class specific stones. If you don't have many pets yet, you'll probably find all the different class stones useful, where as others here have more undead/magic/human stones than they need. You could probably find someone to trade you two (or more) of their undead/human stones for your one flawless stone pretty easily, so the best thing for you might be to trade for two others!

Personally, I would use it on a flyer, beast or critter, as those are the families you will need the most stones for.

Even better if you use it on a non-tradeable pet of that family, that you could never buy or trade for a stone upgrade on. Example that springs to mind - mini jousters from Hyjal.

I ran across this WarcraftPets forum post a while back: http://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1620. It lists the upgrades stones by family, in order of value. It's a subjective list but should help you think through what your priorities might be when using that flawless stone.

Personally, I can already agree on one count: the poster lists undead and elemental stones as the least valuable, and I tend to collect those stones before I have a strong candidate to use one. (By this reasoning, don't upgrade the unborn valk'yr -- if you do the trainer battles, you'll likely farm up a stone)

Whereas the stones that the poster listed as the most valuable, humanoid and magic, I have gotten few of (one each) and need badly.

Definitely some good comments in that link, and yes, I agree. Theres soo many useful pets in the magic line and not enough magic stones.

That's a highly subjective list. Based on the trading forums, Beast/Critter/Flying stones are far more in demand than Humanoid. There are exactly five uncommon only Humanoid battle pets. There's 26 Beast, 18 Critter, and 23 Flying. Compared to five Humanoid. You will have extra humanoid stones long before you finish upgrading your beasts or flyers. I know a guildie who had 18 extra humanoid stones and was giving them away for free.

On the topic at hand, upgrade a pet that you're using a lot or want to use a lot. Have a particular favorite? Upgrade that one. If you're a completionist, you'll eventually have to upgrade 119 pets, and if you stone wild pets (like the Minfernal or Scourged Whelpling), that number be even higher. My first stones went to pets that I was using, like the Infinite Whelpling and Mulgore Hatchling. Was it the smartest move to stone a wild pet? Probably not. But that Whelpling served on most of my tamer teams and finding a rare was difficult. Don't regret it in the least.

Keep in mind that if you have the BOE stone (no specific family, not soulbound), it can be traded or sold. When you're down to your last few pets to upgrade, it's nice to just pull out the BOE one and not have to hope for a specific family. There's definitely still a market for those stones.

I use stones on some wild pets just to prevent my OCD from kicking in. My biggest example is the Crow. I´ve actually seen more minfernals than I have crows.

If you are going by pure logic.. then I would use it on a non-wild caught beast..
