Armored Vaultbot

Hello:
I am a bit confused with Armored Vaultbot.
I wait to the spawn with one key for Armored Vaultbot (I read that the pet only drop if the key is used). When spawn I use the key, explodes in coins and I loot nothing.
Other comments say that the usual kite method sometimes can loot the pet.
I don't know what to do. I loot the pile of coins at Bondo or I wait the rare for open with key?

Either way should net you the pet, just has a low chance at drop (1.5% according to wowhead). Took me 3 weeks or so when I was grinding Mechagon rep. You can quickly find the rare in alternate version of Mechagon too, but can only be killed with key (part of the daily series in alternate Mechagon)

I hope that drop rate figure is wrong. If it is correct then you need to loot it 46 times to have a 50/50 of getting it, so your three weeks means you got lucky.
(1-0.985^21=27.195% chance of getting it)

The drop rate isn't great. You can loot the pet from kiting (which is how I got one) or from using a key, the key just makes it faster.

Now I'm lost! There are key drops and the tinkering thing has keys and such ... now, which/what KEY do I need?

It's crafted from Pascal and allows you to "kill" the armored vaultbot instantly instead of kiting. Also is the only way you can kill the rare when in alternate Mechagon.

I'm sorry if this is stating the obvious . . . but you ARE clicking on the pile of coins that drop on the ground after you use the key to open him, right?

ALSO MUCH EASIER TO LOOT AND USE THE KEY IF YOU GO INTO THE OTHER PLACE THAT CHROMIE SENDS YOU IN. EVEN BETTER TO GO IN NON CHROMIE DAYS IF YOU GET THE PATTERN TO MAKE THE THING TO SEND YOU THERE AT ANYTIME

Hit it, keep hitting (or dotting) it, walk away? Walking backwards is fine since it moves so slow.

You may also be having trouble if you're doing it in the alternate timeline -- the Vaultbot there can't be kited, because there's no magnet. You have to use the key there.

I'm Moonkin, so 2 dots up at all time should be enough, I would think?

I've tried in both normal and future. It just won't play ball
