Northern Hawk Owl

I'm trying to defeat 3 for the Snowfeather hatchling quest, and I've only seen 1 in half an hour (someone else was fighting it). I've been killing every Northern Hawk Owl critter I see, but no luck. Is the spawn on these just abysmal? Are they linked with something else that I need to kill?

It's a mix of factors. For a Hawk Owl (or any other Battle Pet) to spawn, it needs:
1) That its spawn location isn't occupied by a critter version.
2) That there aren't excessive battle pets around already.
I ran into the same issue this morning, with no "battle pet" Northern Hawl Owls to be found; but clearing one of the caves (that was filled to the brim with Rusty Snails) made them spawn in buckets!

That is just WRONG .... Owl's love to attack squirlees and a few meeces!
Snails ... yuk. Even in France with garlic and salt ... (escargot!) ... yuk!
