I'm mostly keeping this 3 :
[pet]Eye of Observation[/pet] Requires 5 players, and don't loot at 100%
[pet]Lanticore Spawnling[/pet] Rare spawn in a heroic dungeon at the end of the world
[pet]Seaborne Spore[/pet] Super rare + boring way to get + howl bomb nerf

The 2 pets from Nat Pagle ([pet]Land Shark[/pet] and [pet]Sea Calf[/pet]) will most likely get a higher value, but they will be easier to get in Legion (the more fishing skill you have, the more chance you have to fish the lunkers) so I think you'll have less potential customers.

I also have :
[pet]Lil' Leftovers[/pet] but this one is more a gamble, depending if cooking will give it with legion recipes / if there isn't too much in game...etc, anyway, the gain will be small and might take months, even years.

As for the other you listed :
- the ones from the Tanaan dailies will get more expensive, but they'll never be as high as the Seaborne Spore, it's probably a safe investment, but you won't gain a lot from it. You'll have to wait until the stock is low, it could take a few months in Legion to reach a good value.
- The [pet]Ore Eater[/pet] and the [pet]Nightshade Sproutling[/pet] won't be a good investment. Like the Leftovers, it will take most likely years to gain from them, and it won't be a high gain, there are just too many of them in game (like the [pet]Elementium Geode[/pet] during Cata which is just now at a good price to sell).

Personally I think [pet]Ore Eater[/pet]s and [pet]Nightshade Sproutling[/pet]s will stay interesting for the simple reason that they come in various breeds. Especially S/S variants might become popular for PvP once the undead nerfs are live. However I believe stockpiling any profession related pets, including the pets rewarded for pet battling, will be quite a gamble this time around.

Not sure why [pet]Lanticore Spawnling[/pet] is a worthwhile investment? At level 110 WoD heroics will most likely be soloed with starter gear or at least early dungeon gear.

Simple : People are lazy and have other things to do. They don't want to go to Blackrock, try to spawn a rare to get a pet when they can get on the ah. Especially when you have to get there +-50 time to see the rare. During the time to see it spawn, you can make the gold to buy it 3-5-10 times faster.

I have my doubts. Few of the MoP pets are more valuable today than back then, when taking inflation into account. Inflation is the crucial point, people often forget about that.

MoP exceptions are pets such as the PWS and Pygme Direhorn, pets who got the reputation as a good battlepet at one point. Many of them are less valuable, the bronze whelplings, the carps, those who drop from rares, etc. The way I see it most players have the WoD pets and for demand to outstrip supply for these pets in Legion there has to be something desirable about the pet besides just having it.

As for the pets mentioned, the Eye of observation would probably see it's requirement of having five people to engage the rare dropped, just as they have dropped similar requirements for other old group content. The Lanticore has it's equivalent in the MoP toy Krastinov's Bag of Horrors, from Scholomance. I suspect they increased the drop rate after the expansion because the rare boss originally only spawned with a LFG group and it was superrare. It's now easily farmable. The Ore Eater has its equivalent in the cata pet Elementium Geode, which sold for 300g on highpop EU realms last year ... The seaborne is the only WoD pet truly rare, but it's at 30k and I'm not sure it will sell for 100k++ in Legion, which is probably where it needs to be to be worthwhile.

Pets are ok as an insurance against inflation. For making gold however, the key is fast turnover. If you have 1000 gold, and invest and sell with a 10% profit the next day, and then repeat, now with 1100gold, the next day again, thats how you make a lot of gold. If you can double your gold every week, then 1000g will have turned into 1 million in 10 weeks.

Keeping pets is always a gamble, you never know if / when the dev will change things and make the value go up (gilneas raven SS says hi) or down. So I choose to gamble for this 3 pets, worst case I'll get refund, best case I'll gain gold. ^^

Of course, but you didn't say anything about a gamble in your first post, nor about the changes we are likely to see.

At Reddit the ah players are chatting about how the Coalfist Gronnling mount, from the garrison mission, is going to go up in Legion. The reasoning, 3-4 mill players left before it was put into the game and will want this mount when they come back. They buy it for 500-3k gold, some have more than a hundred stored away. The new people to the subreddit see this encouragement and starts buying too. They all forget that there are 4-5mill players still playing and most have several extras in the bank, and the mission will, in all likelihood, still be there in Legion.

For a pet to increase in value two things has to happen:

a) Must have limited supply: If the market is flooded today most players have it and it will stay flooded for at least a couple of years. If something is farmable people will farm it, particularly if they see the vaule go up. If the pets from the tanaan dailies sells for a lot players will do the dailies, because it's good gold/hour. Same reason players farm the cata25 raids on all toons every week.

b) The pet has to be desirable, good at battle, good model, or either just by being perceived as rare. The rarest pet with a drop as the source is probably the Living Fluid, a 1% drop from a boss in the LFR version of ToT. Yet that pet sells for half that of the Spinceclaw on EU realms (edit: and also less than half of the much more obtainable Viscous Horror). The Spineclaw on the other hand is considered a decent battlepet (not saying that it is, just that it has the reputation)

edit: Point is, of the few WoD pets satisfying rule a) I don't see any also satisfying rule b), today. Except maybe the seaborne. But this may change in the future of course.

I didn't say anything about a gamble in my first post for this 3 pets, because I strongly believe they will get more expensive due to the factors I wrote in the post, and because it will be outdate content.

Blizzard might change this factors, but it's not usefull to try to get in their head and anticipate. They didn't change some achiev who need 5 players (scholo last boss / gundrak last boss) / they don't want to change "Show me your Moves!" / they took several years to change Thorim - Valithria...etc, even if I'm talking only about dungeon and raid content, we can't be sure they will change WoD outdoor content as it was meant for group / several players.

Even if people can farm, they won't necessarily do it. You can see people buy the Reins of the Raven Lord for 1M... It's the easiest mount of the kind to get, it's been there since bc, and soloable since lk without a drood restriction.

Tanaan's pets dailies are a big pain in the ***. The fights are boring / the pets aren't even on the map / the howl bomb combo will be nerf and make them even more boring, and you need to do hundred of fights to get the Seaborne Spore. Even if the Seaborne Spore sell for 100k, I won't farm the dailies, it's a waste of time.

As for the Coalfirst Gronnling... it will cost even less during legion, buying it to make a profit, is like throwing away gold.

And btw, don't forget that pet selling is very server dependant. Some server might have pet sell x3 the price of another server.

Except they do change these things, now. It's because they want players to move on to current content. The ones they don't change usually has an achievement attached to it.

To put two pets up against each other: The Pygme Direhorn sells for 15-25k in EU despite the fact that the boss who drops it also drops a mount, ie the mob is heavily farmed. On top of that the market was flooded with Direhorns end of MoP (1-2k on ah).

Then we have the Ruby Droplet, a ~1% drop from a rare on Timeless Isle, but a rare you can't get to unless you catch a ride with a bird. It's quite off putting, having to travel to the isle and see if the rare is up, then get a bird for the flight to him. Average EU price now is 20k, back in spring of 2014 it was 12-13k. Inflation has been 3-3.5x in EU so this pet is less valuable now than it was back then.

So why the difference? Those who want to invest in WoD pets should find out which pets are the Direhorns and which are the Rubys. Just because a pet is hard boring to get, or part of 'old content', doesn't mean it will automatically become very valuable.
