I tend to think of these as "Better safe than sorry". They've had little issues in the past with things ending a day early and what not. And when it has, they don't extend the holiday. It's mostly, see you next year. It's got to be pretty complicated getting all this stuff working. So, cross your fingers but don't press your luck if you don't have to!
