List of pet colour variant numbers

Post by Wain » December 9th, 2012, 10:48 pm

I'm not sure if there's been a list like this anywhere before, but I went through WCP's pages and determined the number of colour variants available for every wild pet listed. Some might be wrong. I've found a few pages that were missing a colour, and it's always possible there's more. But anyway, if we were allowed to capture every colour of every wild pet (which we can't because of the 3-cap) it would add up to around 403 pets. Given there's something like 265 other pets, that adds up to slightly more than our 650 cap.

Sorted by number of colours, the list is:

Updated the list, as the Parrot only had three colours, not eight. This has been fixed on WCP as well.

I realize it's a somewhat daunting task... but it would be great to know which color variants are unique to which species... so that people who want to minimize their captures know exactly what they need to catch. Here's an example of what I'm saying.

Raccoons come in 4 colors and 2 sizes. Red, White, Black and Grey.

Bandicoon comes in Black, White and Grey.
Shy Bandicoon comes exclusively in Black.
Masked Tanuki comes exclusively in Red.

However, to get every color in a full-sized Raccoon, you don't have to catch every skin for every pet.

Shy Bandicoon - Large Black
Bandicoon A - Large White
Bandicoon B - Large Grey
Masked Tanuki - Large Red

Therefore you don't actually have to catch a Bandicoon in Black, because Shy Bandicoon, which uses the black skin exclusively, already has that skin covered. Minimizing the amount of duplicates necessary to only one extra Bandicoon.

Now, where it gets more complicated is size variants. Bandicoon Kits and Masked Tanuki pups also cover all 4 colors, but they're both smaller than standard Full sized Raccoons, so if you want all 4 colors in both small and large sizes, you'd also need to catch...

Bandicoon Kit - Black
Bandicoon Kit - White
Bandicoon Kit - Grey
Masked Tanuki Pup - Red

And if you don't give a crap about size, and only want one of each color, you could catch the following, giving you all 4 colors and no duplicates...

Shy Bandicoon - Black
Bandicoon - White
Bandicoon Kit - Grey
Masked Tanuki - Red

See what I'm saying? Breakdowns like that would be helpful for those of us who don't necessarily want EVERY pet in EVERY color... but just want to make sure we have at least one of each unique look.

Now I used Bandicoons as example because they're relatively simple, but it gets way more complicated for stuff like Snakes, Crabs, Moths and so on.

So like I said, it would be helpful... but I understand it's somewhat daunting, so... just throwing the idea out there for anyone who has a huge amount of time and motivation. lol...

I just want to say Thank You very much for taking the time to put these lists together :D I prob would have pulled all my hair out and chewed my finger tips off before I was finished with such a list. This is just another reason why this website stays at number one.

I've actually been working on this very thing, and posted a thread on it this morning:

Thanks for all your work on the lists by colour and model, Gorm :)

I've just updated the list: the Tundra Penguin comes in 2 colour variants, not one.

Updated:
Silky Moth: pretty sure it only comes in 4 colours, not the 6 currently listed on the site. Just need to confirm that.
Swamp Moth: def. comes in 4 colours, not 2 (site already corrected)

Updated: Crunchy Scorpion comes in 4 colours, not 3. WCP is missing the black with orange spots version, but I've let them know.

Mountain Cottontail also comes in 4 colours, since it comes in shiny white as well as flat white.

That's an awesome piece of work :) They need tables like that here :)

I guess you'll have to update the Crunchy Scorpion though. Oh, and the Silky Moth, which only has 4 colours... WCP had a couple of extras they since removed :)

Updated the moths, but cant see the change for the Crunchy Scorpion. Might be due to temperary blindness. :-)

EDIT: making new pics of all of them - sorted in a "better" non-alphabetical way, but with green highlights, where one need to pay accention to get all skins in ones pet collection.

PS: So what did you guys say about new skins for old critters? *sigh*

I read, what you actually typed, and not what I thought I saw. Thus updated the Moths, Scorps and Rabbits correct this time - I think. Could you please check for me?

The only corrections I noticed are:
Garden Moths actually have the same wings as Crimson Moths, not Red Moths.
Mountain Cottontails have a shiny white option, but as far as I know, Snowshoe Hares just have the regular white option.
