Addon or Website to help abandon unnecessary pets?

Hey,

I'm at ~1.000 battle pets for a long time now and it doesn't look like Blizzard will increase the max. pet number in the short term. So over the last months it was really hard to decide what pets to abandon or cage to make room for all the new ones.

I know that I still have a lot of pets with similar move sets, so my collection maybe looks like this:

X-Rat: S/S S/B H/B
Y-Rat: P/S S/S
Z-Rat: H/B
etc.

With the exact same skills the only difference (not thinking about male/female IDs) are stats (breeds) and I should only keep 1 unique pet and 1 breed for the similar move setups...

Does anyone know a website or addon that can help me to find/compare pets in my collection so I don't have to sort my pets by (original) name and maybe the "find similar" option in Rematch and then check for the breeds I have more than once for different unique pets?

I know a very good one indeed!

It's little-known, but deserves more attention.

http://signature.neflin.net/wowpets/pets.php

Overtype your character, realm and region, then watch the options unfold.

This came about when I was in a similar situation, and I posted here: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/13987408877

Rufa kindly, and ingeniously, turned my idea into a working site.

It takes a minute to get your head around it, so let it sink in.

Start by looking at Similar Beasts.

You will see all of your Cats with Claw/Rake/Devour/Pounce/Screech/Prowl, Snakes with Bite/Hiss/Burrow/Poison Fang/Counterstrike/Vicious Fang, and so on.

The entries in Blue are the breeds you own.

Each of the columns represents, top to bottom, the ones with most Health, most Power, most Speed, as a Blue 25. Your actual pet may be a green 6, but what the site shows is its potential when levelled and stoned.

So if you want the fastest snakes, you can see that S/S breeds of Rat Snake, Grove Viper, Rock Viper, Sidewinder, Temple Snake, Snake all have the same stats and 341 speed.

It has other features, like displaying Duplicate Pet/Breed combinations, and will list Missing pets, with their tooltip, as well.

It helped me sort out my collection when I was my total pets were getting high, and I was lost in a morass of rabbits and snakes (Why'd it have to be Snakes? :P) with no idea what to level and what to release.

I'm grateful to Rufa for helping me with it, and I hope it may be useful to others. :)

Nice website indeed. Sadly, it's a bit slow. I'm wondering if the author does any caching or sends a requests to the blizzard api with each reload (the later would get him/her in trouble if the website gets a lot of attention).

Thanks, will give it a try.

Already interesting that a P/B Grizzly Squirrel is different from a P/B Squirrel :shock:

Yeah; it's eye-opening, all the little differences you never look at. I was very impressed to see all the stats laid out on the site.

In this case, it's caused by different Base Stats.

Stats:

Health = ((BaseHealth + (HealthPts / 10)) * 5 * Level * Quality) + 100

Power = (BasePower + (PowerPts / 10)) * Level * Quality

Speed = (BaseSpeed + (SpeedPts / 10)) * Level * Quality

Squirrel has Base Stats 8.0, 7.5, 8.5

Grizzly Squirrel has Base Stats 8.0, 8.0, 8.0

WOW - that site is pretty nice. I did find it a bit overwhelming initially - LOL.

There is another resource on this web site, which has helped me as well - [url]http://www.warcraftpets.com/community/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8980[/url] - the Pets With Identical Abilities guide. I used that to kinda pick a mix of stats to keep - the cockroaches for eg, I think they are, um, not very nice looking ;-) so I make sure I keep the best breeds and the rest are any blue that drops.

Has any-one else noticed that generally the first blue you get is a B/B?

Edited to add: I was reading through the forum thread you linked. Am I understanding correctly that the duplicate moveset is not based on position? If so, that could be problematic with certain pets - for eg (I know these don't have similar movesets, but just using this as an example) [pet]Gahz'rooki[/pet] and [pet]Pandaren Water Spirit[/pet] both have Whirlpool and Geyser, but PWS has it on position 2 and 3, whereas the hydra has both on position 3 so its an either or situation.

The pets are segregated by moveset. Moveset is defined as the concatenation of the level 1 ability, the level 2 ability, the level 4 ability, and so on, in order.

Pets that have the same abilities, but in different slots, would not be considered to have the same moveset, so the problem you suspected does not occur.

Maybe API has just been modified. :D

But seriously, it's a pity that they forgot about adding the contact info. Even their character is barely active. :(

Still not updated tho, as it doesn't contain for example a new moth group:
([pet]Skywisp Moth[/pet], [pet]Cerulean Moth[/pet], [pet]Crimsonwing Moth[/pet], [pet]Dusty Sporewing[/pet]).

Holy Light! :(

At least we can see an unimpressive, non-interactive fragment on the Wayback Machine:
http://web.archive.org/web/201504052338 ... s/pets.php

Is there a way to check if does there exist any WarcraftPets profile that a given WoW character is attached to?

I was wondering if you guys could think of any pet which has the same skills as another one, but with switched positions?

Example:
Moth 1: Slicing Wind/Reckless Strike , Cocoon Strike/Counterspell, Moth Dust/Call Lightning
Moth 2: Slicing Wind/Reckless Strike, Moth Dust/Call Lightning, Cocoon Strike/Counterspell

I was fiddling around with a sql database, checked some pets with the same moveset but couldn't find any yet with switched positions.

You'd try with the Wowhead's filter.

This, for example, looks for all pets with all these three abilities:
[ability]Thrash[/ability], [ability]Slicing Wind[/ability], [ability]Hawk Eye[/ability]

http://www.wowhead.com/petspecies?filte ... petspecies

I chose this one because I've already known that this moveset is varied.
