So I don't know if it was a coincidence or luck but it might be worth a try to see if it works, seems to work pretty good for me, and I now have Mr. Pinchy on 4 of my characters after finishing the Crocolisks in the City quest with a companion reward.

I was fishing for it myself today, but started running out of patience after about 60 casts or so. Came across this post, and thought I'd might as well give it a try. Crocs in the city happened to be today's daily so I did it. Didn't reward any pet but I still went back to the area near skettis and, what do you know, after less than 10 casts I got it!
Definitely worth a try for those of you still missing the magical crawdad!

You can try it while standing on one foot and hopping, but the only way in game to get it is to go fish highland pools. The only way to improve the chance of getting a proc is to sacrifice many gnomes to the ancient Troll gods aka RNG.
Tasty tasty gnome burgers.....

Also, I'm almost certain you can only get the crawdad pet once per character, and the same with the crocs. I think someone on this site actually had (semi) official confirmation on that from LeCraft's twitter.

Regardless, the drop % listed on wowhead is bogus. It still reflects from back in BC, and the drop rate is close to 2 orders of magnitude higher, as are our fishing skills.

Yup. LeCroft confirmed via a Twitter post that you can only get each of those pets once per toon. And for what it's worth, I can guarantee that I got Pinchy on 5 different toons before ever even starting any of the Crocolisks in the City quests. So it is possible to fish up Pinchy without doing the Crocs.

All the same, good to know.
I thought I was insane for going for <The Insane> title. Now I'm planning on going for <Salty>. So getting a Mr. Pinchy is on my list of... things.

Actually, I fished up 5 so far! I kept 3 "just in case" I ever needed to go triple Crawdad on someone and I sold the other two for a tidy profit!
