Deviate Hatchling

For those wondering, the raptors are only located in the instance, in the very first area which makes it fairly easy for resets.

There are about 30 raptors in that one chamber, in case you want an easy way to estimate how many of the flippin' things you've had to kill to get the pet to drop. So far, no luck for me. Of the non-rarespawn raptors this may be the easiest one to farm, considering how low leveled the raptors are. With Cataclysm approaching, you may consider stepping on the gas for this guy too, as the Barrens appears to be getting a massive overhaul and WC might experience significant changes.

My strategy to farm this raptor:
Go into instance and just take the four corned path where first boss is and at every corner, kill EVERYTHING! Then, loot all, easier if have lots of bag space, and check if one drops. Then repeat as much as you want.

I was sending my level 80 through Wailing Caverns to collect greens for my boyfriends character to disenchant when I got this little guy. I found him quite quickly, I didn't even get to Lady Anacondria! I only took down about 10-30 raptors. I just got lucky.

This is an adorable match if you are a Hunter with the tamed adult version at your side with the Deviate Hatchling scambling at your feet. It's like you have the whole family with you!

Just got this little guy today. Took three trips through the raptor room of the instance. Very mellow farming. Made a few gold selling all the greys and greens. Save the 500g+ people are charging in AH and get this guy yourself.

4 resets total for this pet.

I farmed around in WC killing the Deviate Ravagers while doing some quests. They aren't very hard to kill, but the companion isn't easy to get either. Just keep at it like with the other dinos, and you should get it within 1-2 hours tops if you do it right.

If you have to run out and reset Wailing Caverns, be warned that you can only reset it a certain number of times within one hour. I just did it 5 times I believe, and then got a yelow message saying, "You have entered too many instances today." I think it's just referring to Wailing Caverns though. Still, I have to wait about an hour to try again to farm for this little guy.

Went with my lvl 40 alt, got it on first run. One of the easiest pets to farm since the mobs are in one place and if you're done just reset instance. Moreover, it's a nice skinning opportunity. Go for it ;)

I ran thru the instance 4 times. On the fourth try, the very first raptor you see when you enter ended up dropping it. So i'd say that was maybe around 90 kills.

I'm really happy I farmed this rather than buying it off the auction house. I was debating whether I should buy it for 1400 gold :( I'm happy I didn't!

I headed into Wailing caverns with no idea this pet even existed, it dropped on the SECOND kill! my brother then got one a few days later. Only the raptors in the first area of the instance drop it.

I've gotten 5 of these so far. It took me 4 runs to get the first. A couple days later I was checking for the one in north barrens and thought, what the heck, I'll run this dungeon while I'm here and see what happens.

I got one on my first attempt... ran it again and got two more in one run! After that I started to make it a habit to check all the spots in Kalimdor when I'm not busy. I've picked up a couple more from WC since then, but I'm 0 for about the last 7 now. :P

Go fig.

I have killed about 500 raptors in the Wailing Cavern's instance so far, and still no pet. Have they lowered the drop rate or am I just really unlucky?

after 26 resets i got this guy...it was worth it though because it was my 50th companion

I had farmed for this little guy a few months back and had no luck, decided to try again today and got it on the final raptor of my first run. I'm putting it down to pure luck on my part. I'd say it's a great little guy to go for if you have no trouble solo-ing the first cavern, patience will be well rewarded.

It took me resting the instance 4 times to get this little guy. I was starting to wonder if I'd ever get him.

Dropped on my run to get the achievment (first run), for a moment I thought to sell it on the AH, but then rememberd why I love this game, because of this kind of stuff :D. At least I have a 'rare' pet

30+ runs over the past 2 months... random times and dates..... nothing............. at all. still trying. so whats with the egg thing?

Took me 5-6 runs. The first two proved I'm a newbie to this. Reset instance under your portrait outside the instance. Something that took me a while to get :)

Took me 7 hrs. to get this pet. I am so in love with how cute he is.

Now if only we could name them!

Got this baby within the first 10 kills... Now let's see how much more it will take me to get the second one for my boyfriend ;)

got mine after a total of about 15 runs, and it was very worth it. Just dont give up, it will take a while. here's how to do it: 1: go to wailing caverns instance. 2: dismiss all pets, as they might one-hit the raptors. 3: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART- get on your favorite music in the background to keep from getting bored. 4: kill the raptors, as they are the only ones that drop it. I got lucky and got it on the very first kill inside the instance!

The drop rate of this pet seems to be much higher, or at least on my realm.
First time I went their after patch, after about 15 kills I got him :D.
A few days later I went in again for quests for the achievement, first 5 or so kills it dropped.
It seems to be so common on my realm I had to beg someone to take it so I could get rid of it :/.

Finally got it on about my seventh run (though I've ran it on differant toons before, I'm counting seven only on one).
About 3 runs into it, I noticed that almost EVERY raptor drops a small raptor tooth, which makes it fairy simple to track the rough amount of raptors you've killed if you don't already Have an addon for that.
Don't give up! It's worth it in the end!
