Notes:
This pet may be used by non-engineers. Players must complete all three escort quests to earn a final quest, [50]An OOX of Your Own in Booty Bay, which provides this pet as a reward. Note that the pet is BoU, so it can also be found at auction.

Breanni Says:

This is the one of the few mechanical pets that doesn't require engineering to create. All you have to do is escort OOX-22, fending off swarms of yetis, gorillas, and gnolls, all the way to the Feralas coast. Then guide OOX-09 through the Hinterlands, fighting oozes, wildkin, and packs of invisible wolves. Next hit Tanaris to lead OOX-17 across half the zone, thwarting scorpids, basilisks, hyenas, rocs, and bandits. Yup, that's much easier than getting a few mithril bars and some jade… but I'm not bitter.

It's interesting to note that this pet does not bind to you after completing all of the quests to obtain it, so you will sometimes see this come up on the auction house if you don't feel like farming for all of the beacons. It averages for about 1k on my server.

If you're looking for the eggs individually, get ready for some farming. Youve got a good chance to get the Tanaris beacon from a run in Zul'Farakk, But the Hinterlands and feralas ones required some decent farming. Theres a huge camp full of Woodpaw Gnolls in Feralas that work nicely, and in the Hinterlands look for Mangey Silvermaine wolves.

The Customer Service Forums (US) have an on-going thread about the three individual drops needed for this quest. If you are unsure which of the OOX you have had drop for you, post and the friendly GMs will let you know where you are in the quest line!

If you are doing these quests at low level, be aware that the chicken in the quests likes to keep running sometimes when mobs appear leaving you to deal with them alone. I remember this happened to me in Feralas at least. This is easy way to fail the quest if you're too slow killing them and chicken gets too far from you.

The trick I've found for preventing the chicken from ignoring combat is to lag behind him so they attack the chicken first. If it's actually engaged in combat it will stop and fight rather than leave you to die. He's not bad in a fight either, usually almost dropping one of the mobs while you're working on the others.

My suggestion: whenever you get a beacon as you're leveling, go ahead and turn it in to the chicken, but don't accept the escort quest. That way, when you're higher level and it's easy to solo, you'll know which beacons you've farmed and which you haven't.

I really like this pet. I wish he had OOX in his name though.

I can't belive people sell this one on the AH. Once you get him and sell him, you can't ever get him again. I know, I know... some people just aren't into pets like we are. But seeing this one on the AH makes warcraftpet collectors cry for those that know not the joy of companion collecting.

Around two years ago when I was leveling through these zones, I didn't have much trouble completing the Tanaris quest, making it through all three scripted encounters. However, I kept failing at the second or third scripted encounter for the Feralas run, eventually dropping it when the quest went gray.

I decided to go back to finish these now that I'm high level; Imagine my surprise when the escort finished after the first scripted encounter! So, at some point they made these escorts easier.

Unlike the other 'quest pets' that are out there, this lovely chicken cannot be retrieved from the friendly neighbourhood stablemasters. This is because it's a BoE item rather than BoP; it would be too easy to sell your chicken, get another, sell that, and so on. So if you have completed this quest and got rid of the chicken, you'll have to hit the AH or make an alt. I suggest a handy throwaway DK...

This chicken needs to be brought up to the size of the ones you escort, and it needs its name changed to an OOX codename

P.S: why was my suggestion of OOX-04/U downrated so badly?

A note for those of us who last did these escort quests years ago: these quests have been heavily nerfed. Instead of multiple waves of mobs, there is now only one. You have to walk your chicken only a fraction of the previous distance too.

If you are going for this pet and are farming for an egg somewhere with no luck, try going to the chicken body- if you ever got a beacon, accepted the quest and turned it in, the chicken's body will have the quest, but you can't get another egg ever.

part of a blue post on an OOX thread @ WoW forums:
"With 3.3 an option was implemented that allows players to pull up a list of completed quests. There are already several addons that make use of this information to allow players to figure out where they are in regards to this quest line.

Though as always, we are happy to help where we can, we may be unable to continue to provide such information, as it has been made available to you to find this yourself."

With Patch 3.3, the lua allows for addons to query the server for which quests you have completed, which means certain addons can tell you which of the OOX quests you've completed, or partially completed, or whatever!

I used the addon "EveryQuest" from wow.curse.com. Worked like a charm.

Happy Hunting!

For the beacon in Feralas, the easiest way is to farm the yeti's, I found the drop rate to be good and it's really close to the 00X.

In the Hinterlands, if the wolves (mangy silvermane) are giving you a hard time, I found that the oozes in the cave of skulk rock worked wonders for most of my characters.

The beacon in Tanaris will almost always drop in zul farrak, but if you don't want to do the instance, the pirate mobs south of Tanaris also drop it (though not as frequently).

Good Luck!

Also got my hinterlands drop from the oozes. It did take awhile though - I rotated between the oozes, owlbeasts, and Jintha'Alor. Skulk rock is conveniently near the robot's location.

I must say, at the end of all the pain and horror I just sold this guy. He brought back too many bad memories....
