This wild pet can be found in the Master's Cellar. The entrance to the cellar is located in the ruined town just outside of the Karazhan instance in Deadwind Pass.
The shadeling only spawns during the early morning hours (roughly between midnight and 9 AM).

9.00am realm time is the switch over point. I was there today and all despawned at exactly this time.
Based on comments looked for a cave nearby found one with ogres but no shadelings so flew around and found 2 opening near the raid and found a few. Look for cellar openings at 48.24, 78.31.
update: found a spawn of 6 or more in one cellar but then after an hour no more had spawned so I was pretty aggravated with blizzard. Finally 2 more spawned and the elusive rare was the last one I battled and I got him! woot
went in with my terrible turnip and the rest of the taming crew but never did find anything over a poor ... with over 70 tries! thank GOD i got a pet stone from one of the taming dailies to advance one to a rare!
I listened to everyones advice about going in early morning. I cleared the "Caves" over and over, night after night, and never found a rare. Came back @ 11am server time, to battle the pet tamer, and the cave was loaded; Found a rare my first try!
I know, it sucks to hear conflicting information, just sayin'
Arrived there at 8:30am Server Time (EU Server) and began battling. At exactly 09:00am the remaining ones despawned.
just got here at 230am EST. No shadlings underground but a TON of arcane eyes up top. Follow up post when and if I find me a shadling
update: 3:01 EST SPAWN CITY! They will all spawn 1 minute after midnight PST! Got my rare after about 9 attempts.
7:17 Server time the whole cave had tons of them up. I battled all of them. I found 2 greens and 0 rares. This one must have a low rare spawn rate.
Just tamed a rare H/H after 2 battles this morning @ 6:30 server (Bonechewer). Confimed it's early morning, not just the wee hours of the morning.
Just got mine today! Just for East Coast people it doesnt matter if its 12am server time and your on an east coast server you must stay up til 3am to hit midnight west coast server time. I dont know if this was mentioned really sucked staying up for it but after the fifth battle I got my rare!
Snagged an Uncommon after they started spawning like clockwork at 12am PST. Uncommons are pretty frequent, so if you don't find one right away, be sure to keep trying. Remember, there are TWO cellars you can check, so if you're hunting for a rare, don't neglect the other cellar! Found a Rare with the help of a friend after approximately 60 battles.
Because someone said these were underground, I battled several lvl 68-70s on the way down, found a poor and then 2nd battle, a rare. That was about 5am Zangarmarsh time or 7pm EDT. Then, I snagged a rare Arcane Eye first battle to replace the green from a previous trip. For those who don't know, there are two underground entrances. The one I used was at 47.5 78.0 and the other is near it at 48.4 78.4 - both are stairs down in two different burned out houses. They can be seen from the air.
Found 8, 10 before server went down for 5.2 battled 6, 1 was obstructed, number 8 rare got it 4 sec before server went down, how lucky can 1 be :)
Found one of these little guys on my minimap en route to Karazhan for the mount. Had no clue they were underground, I flew around for a good twenty five minutes before deciding to look it up. Level 18 rare, the only one up (7am-Eonar).
Named DKling, my Restless Shadeling is a mini me! It's Plagued Blood is The Best Battle Pet Attack EVER! Teamed up with a Scorpid, and a Sporeling Sprout, Restless Shadelings KICK BUTT! Use this pet. you wont regret it... Even if you have to be up at 2:00 a.m., TOTALLY WORTH IT!
Did this two nights at 2AM CST. They appear like clockwork. They continue spawning for about 20 minutes. Both nights I was the only one there and was able to battle (or check) every single spawn in both cellars. The first night there wasn't a rare, but I got one the second night.
For those that are Alliance and have a flying mount, there is a nice shortcut: In Stormwind's Mage tower there is a portal to the Blasted Lands and then you just fly over the mountians.
I've read several comments now, about a basement infront of Kara'. Just to clarify: There are in fact 2 basements in front of Kara, where you do NOT need quests to get inside. Both are in the ruined houses on the left, if you stand in front of Kara. One is in the ruin at 47.5, 78.2 and the other in the ruin in front of this one, at 48.8, 78.8. The first is sort of a natural cave with a small lake, the other is a very big wine cellar.
Talk about luck - 4 battles this morning, 3 rares! :)
I read that you need to do a quest to get in the cellar. Is that true? and how is the quest called?
I cant go into the cellar for some reason
Edit: Never mind i found the cellar just before the enterance of kara.
I got a green one. Blue will come. Just need to have patience

Just got lvl 18 rare. 5 try. time : 01:12 EU server.
I followed Taurnek's theory about the spawns following PST (since I play on a realm that follows EST) and hung around until it hit midnight. At 12:01 am PST tons of these guys spawned below (3:01am EST). I went through a couple looking for at least a common and some did seem to respawn behind me. These guys come into battle on their own, so it was not difficult to actually capture one.
