This companion is a rare tier Fossil archaeology item. It is created by discovering and "solving" 85 fossil fragments.

Once completed, an entry on the Fossilized Hatchling can be found in players' archaeology tab: "When you finished assembling this tiny skeleton through some eldritch magic, the little critter sprang back to life. He's a pretty good pet. Since he's a skeleton, he doesn't eat much."

I got this guy very early on. He was my first rare who I got at 50 skill points. He is my favourite pet just having him following me around.

All you guys getting him in single figure amount of solves! I'd made everything but the mount version, kraken tentacle and proto drake skeleton for fossil before I got him! He is excellent though, makes some awesome sounds, but I feel a little let down that he doesn't have any special animations, same goes for the Clockwork Gnome.

I got mine last night and the title "Assistant Professor" as well. While I very nice reward for working archeology, it is too small to be used very often.

I got this pretty early on in my Fossil solves (somewhere between 3 and 7), but it took me hours to get enough fossils to actually complete it. None of my arch nodes would spawn as fossils. After gathering about a hundred of everything else, I finally got all my fossil pieces.

I got this guy as my 4th Fossil artifact (19th artifact).

For people who haven't tried archaeology yet, it's important to realize that only the "fossil" artifacts will apply toward this pet. The 'solve 85' also doesn't include any artifacts you have to solve to get to him.

This was the 6th fossil I completed. Have to say, Ungoro was my best friend for fossil shards. I love this little guy, though i hope my other hatchlings won't gang up on him!

Sooo adorable! I got the pet on my... 3rd fossile puzzle.. and how lucky was I to get the raptor mount DIRECTLY AFTER!? :D They're both adorable and love them! I would say to do your Arch for all the mounts (2 + the recipe for Alchemy) and the pets. They are sooo cool!

I'm so excited, this was my 4th fossil to solve (7th overall puzzle). If you don't have master flying and you want this pet or any other arch one, or mounts, get it, it's a must.

The order that you solve the puzzles seems to differ from person to person. If you're after this little dude, try to mostly go after the Fossil dig-sites (these are pretty easy to pick out from the map). I believe he was my third Fossil tier puzzle. He is completely adorable! Collecting those 85 pieces for him was definitely worth it.

This was my 7th fossil to solve. Super cute pet, love it! It takes 85 fossils to complete, got it in about 2 hours of receiving the project.

Got this pet as my first rare fossil. So happy I didn't have to grind for days like I did with the giant sewer rat. Hope the crawling hand doesn't take too long once I get my skill up.

This was my 3rd fossil tier to solve. I thought the 85 was going to take a long time to get to but it only took about an hour of traveling from dig site to dig site.

Got this as my 6th fossil to solve, so I'm guessing your artifacts come in a random order.

85 fragments needed though so you'd better like your Archaeology as much as I do!

It's easy to tell which dig sites will give you fossils when you look at map. Mouse over the digsites and check the names, which give good clues as to what they will yield.
