This pet is redeemed through the very rare 'Thunderhead Hippogryph' loot card from the World of Warcraft TCG. The card may be scratched to reveal a code allowing access to this pet. The code may be redeemed at Blizzard's promotion retrieval page. The pet may be obtained in-game from Landro Longshot in Booty Bay.

Looks exactly like the Japanese donation companion you can still buy for 10 bucks. No one is turning their heads when they see this, I see a version of this ALL the time.

So... I had decided not to pursue the TCG loot cards, but while buying a gift at Target we happened upon a big box of 99 cent trading card packs. There was one Treasure Pack from Onyxia's Lair. My 6 year old opened my cards and asked what I was looking for. I said, "One with a scratch off code." She replies, "Like this one?" and hands me the Thunderhead Hippogryph. OMG! Couldn't believe it. Moral of the story - check your local Target for cheap WOW cards!

I don't like the new look, especially since they were both changed. I could completely get behind changing one so we could tell them apart, but I LOVED the oversized beak and the clumsy cuteness. Bad move Blizz!

This is still one of the rarer pets in wow, I get looks every time I pull mine out. Mine was a gift but I'm pretty sure it was bought off Ebay. The supersized hooves on it just add to its cuteness

Just follw Your nose-! Ha ha Tucan Sam. This pet reminds me of him. Sadly though I don't deploy him much in dungeons since he looks too colorful. Always in sholzar basin though :)

My fiance gave me this one when he got it out of his deck. I was so stoked to add it to my wonderful collection! This will be for however long my all time fav. pet. I enjoy his big nose/head to his small little hooved body. Plus its a perfect fit for a druid. Now if only they could fly up with your flying mount like some other pets do.

My brother got this card in a booster pack and it took me months before he finally gave in to my constant asking and several bribe attempts. I have it now and it's one of my top three pets, along with Frosty and Eggbert.

Very nice pet. I wish that it would fly next to me on my flying mount like the tickbirds and moths do. I even have the Cenarion Hippogryph mount. It floats around you on the ground, a little lower than the whelplings.

A Silver one would be great!
But would the Horde get it too?

I'd say an Argent one would be great too but we already have the Squire/Grunt.

Out of all the WoW pets, this one is by far my favorite.

I love this pet but unless I get lucky I'm not gettin 'em. I know it likely won't happen, but I wish they'd resuse the same model for another pet. I wouldn't mind a Silver Covenent hatchling! :O

I love this little guy. He's especially cool looking when you're mounted on a Cenarion Hippogryph and have the "Guardian of Cenarius" title displayed. Extra points if you're also a druid. ;)

I find that more "female" characters Ooh and Aah over this cute little flyer than any other pet, with the possible exception of the Baby Panda.

So if you don’t play the card game, how do you get this pet? Well, I got mine through ebay. The card wasn’t cheap, but as an avid pet collector I simply couldn’t resist. This adorable hippogryph is one of my prized pets. He provides constant inspiration to my night elf priestess as she tosses out the heals — and she tosses out quite a few, as the cuteness factor of this rare pet can be a little distracting!
