This companion is a rare tier Tol'vir archaeology item. It is created by discovering and "solving" 150 Tol'vir Archaeology Fragments. Players may utilize up to three Tol'vir Hieroglyphic to aid in the solving of this item. Each Tol'vir Hieroglyphic is the equivalent of 12 Tol'vir Archaeology Fragments.
Once completed, an entry on the Crawling Claw can be found in players' archaeology tab: "A legend among the tol'vir tells of a wicked djinn whom the Ramkahen sought to destroy. In an attempt to prevent his own death, the djinn tried to transfer his spirit into the body of a monkey. He was slain right in the middle of the transference, and only a fraction of his essence had moved over - only enough to possess the monkey's paw."
Although this pet is Bind on Account, the item will disappear once learned.

Dalaran's not as busy as it used to be, so it gets a little lonely in my shop these days. At least I can amuse myself by playing rock, paper, scissors with this pet! Not to mention the Crawling Claw is great if I'm in need of an extra helping "hand" managing the store's pets. Of course, he needs to stop with that "five-finger-discount" nonsense...

If you want a pet that can beat Farmer Nishi quickly, then use this pet. I can usually beat all three of her pets with just this one. Easy pet daily. Handier thing is to have one of your level 23s or 24s come in for a round and get a quick leveling.
Update: Seriously, great way to level a low pet. Put my level 14 Darkmoon Rabbit in for one round and leveled him to level 18.
I'm over 300 solves on my previous Archaelogist. I decided to re-level Archaelogy on a different character. This pet was my 52nd solve. So excited.
Not sure if RNG just liked me, but with the new 6 digs a site, it will be easier to get now either way.
I noticed the claw is given purple quality on WoW's site. Wondering if it will be upgraded to epic in an upcoming patch possibly? Anyone know?
Contrary to some posts the MoP artifact crates do indeed have keystones - although rare.
Gave up farming this pet long ago as well as the bug mount. After introducing the new method of buying tol'vir fragments from solved Pandaria items I've finally had it appear in my log :) now if only the bug mount would appear soon :)
I'm so unlucky that, even after getting this pet, he constantly loses at RPS
If you're still working on this, I seriously recommend having something to engage your mind to listen to. Podcasts, audiobooks, whatever. Archeology for long stretches is just mindnumbing.
And yes, it was really frustrating to have all those Night elf digsites popping up even after finishing every Night elven rares. Going through over 300 Tolvir solves (my previous and 3rd Tolvir rare was at around 76 solves) and 150ish Troll/Dwarf solves without a single rare did not help either.
Imagine my surprise when a rare popped up and it was the claw that I wanted(out of the 3 remaining Tolvir rares)
Check out the new Archeology Info on Wowhead. Once you reach 600 in Pandaria you can buy crates of fragments from Pre MoP places and with Crated artificacts. One poster said you get 5-9 per crate.
it doesn't include keystones. You can save up the lower items as you level and use them at the end to get Tol'vir fragments

I did almost all of my archy post 4.3, which may account for what seems to be lower numbers than most others. I stopped as soon as I got the claw, and had by that point already gotten all other pets and the raptor skeleton mount.
It took a while but I'm glad I stuck at it!
