Prior to The Shattering, this whelpling dropped from the Red Whelp, Flamesnorting Whelp, and Crimson Whelp. These creatures have since been removed.

As of Patch 4.0.3, the Tiny Crimson Whelpling is now a zone drop from the Wetlands.

Well, it took more than 20,000 kills between my husband and I, but finally one dropped! I was beginning to get discouraged because it was taking so long, but that constant spawn point is great.  Now on to the Dark Whelping!

Finally had one drop for me after thousands of kills, SO HAPPY. I highly recommend getting the spot around 67,47 (I think thats it, where the orcs and dragonkin are fighting).  The spawn rate is brilliant there, aoe them down and auto loot. There are two small groups on either side of them, I found that if I ran up and quickly got those, the pack in the middle spawned faster and with more of them in one hit. I got into a cycle of left pack, middle, right pack, middle, etc. Good luck!

I was out in the Wetlands fishing and this croc gets in my face, so I smack him and out pops this pet. I didn't even know that happens. Well, the next time I was in town I opened up the AH screen and went to shift-click on the whelpling in my bag to see what I might sell it for. I accidentally right-shift-clicked and became the proud owner of a Crimson Whelpling! BTW the market value is about 10K in my realm.

Currently leveling this little guy right now... totally worth the 8k gold I spent on it. The self-heal is magnificent and this pet deals a fairly nice amount of damage.

January 12, 2013

Have had this one since it was a vanity pet and always found it cute.  Now as a battle pet I find it outstanding esp for pve farming.

Now that I got it to 25, I find it a great utility pet - esp with the self heal.  The Lift-off ability is extremely effective just note that it misses about 1 in 5 attempts (actual misses not including dodges).  The Breath ability is nearly always a hit, and Tail Sweep is dangerous.  If you pair this pet with a Fel Flame, the scorched earth is deadly paired with the Flame's Conflagrate.

Good luck to all of you farming this one and if you see it in the AH and have the $, grab it because the drop rates are rough.  I have tried farming it to make some $ with no luck and have only seen it listed twice in 2 different server AH in the last 6 mos.

Update: March 9, 2013

Sadly they nerfed this one - I feel they added one round too many to the cd on the self-heal :(

This mofo has dropped for me a couple of times but long before Pet Battles and they were only called vanity pets then :) anyway for the people confused on what to kill go to Wetlands The Green Belt co-ords 67/47 and kill everything they spawn very fast so id suggest cleaning out your bags or have mammoth mount with the vendors cause they can drop alot of cloth and trash and you will want to keep looting. happy hunting still to find one again myself so I guess its all about luck.

I appricate all the hard work you guys put into farming this pet, but I would much rather have information about what to farm and where.

Wow, I love you guys!  The tips were perfect.  I don't have a kill counter, but between last night and today I spent 4 hours out here and just got him.  I hadn't been to the wetlands in a while and didnt remember that auto spawn point but it was perfect.  I had never farmed for him before because after doing the azure whelp back when it was released, farming broke me.  But, I really wanted this guy, so I gave it a shot.  Thanks again to all the posters!

He's so adorable!

Usually I don't have much luck with pet farms, but after spending about 30 minutes at the instant spawn dragonmaw vs dragonkin spot I found this little guy. My tracker said 587 loots but not sure id that counted the multiple bodies with the new system! Still, so happy. Good luck getting yours!

Spent the last few weeks farming this for a friend (I already had one), used the instant respawning spot ... 8000 wool cloth later, I finally got it for him. Anyone need a zillion gaudy Christmas Sweaters? I killed each group (there are 3) about 20 times before I looted ... love the AOE loot!

After farming 5k mobs, switching between the insta-respawning orcs/dragonkin and ebon whelps, I got my Crimson Whelp, the last one I need besides Tarec'gosa! It's very fast to just stand between the fighting points and aoe them down (standing on top of the points slows down the respawn for some reason). It may take awhile, but persevere and you will have a whelpling of your very own!

So my amusing story about this little guy is that it's one of the last dropped pets that I needed so I decided to roll up my sleeves and go farm it. I figured aoe looting plus aoe killing was a win/win. I dled the rarity addon just to keep track. I spent 2hours ish which was about 1500 kills and decided to call it a night. My boyfriend decides that he was going to try farming it for me and got it after about 20 min there which I figured was about 500 kills! I was sooo happy but frustrated lol.

After reaching 2299 kills while farming for this cutie a few nights ago I was just about ready to give up for the night... except I'm kind of OCD about my Rarity addon and I like to round my numbers off, so off I go to do just that and kill one more whelp.

Lo and behold, the pet drops on that last whelp. XD

My paranoid self won't let me believe I'll ever get this pet with the AOE looting.
Best place to farm this is 67, 47 btw, where the dragons and orcs are fighting.

Early on in my collecting career, I farmed for this pet for three days straight. Upon summoning it for the first time, I immediately noticed a problem: whelps fly right in my gnomish field of vision! But I wasn't about to farm for it again. So eventually my troll hunter got her own crimson whelp at auction — it only cost 120 gold... and my peace of mind!
