Patch 4.0.1 | Posted: December 7, 2010
This companion is a rare tier Dwarfish archaeology item. It is created by discovering and "solving" 100 Dwarf Archaeology Fragments. Players may utilize up to three Dwarf Rune Stone to aid in the solving of this item. Each Dwarf Rune Stone is the equivalent of 12 Dwarf Archaeology Fragments.
Once completed, an entry on the Clockwork Gnome can be found in players' archaeology tab: "Mechagnomes were created by the titans, apparently as servants and caretakers, much like the earthen. This mechagnome was likely damaged because it is no longer focused on its original tasks and seems content to follow you."

Thought to be an original construct of the titans, the clockwork gnome has some gears smaller than the eye can see.
Dwarf dig sites can be found primarily in Burning Steppes, Searing Gorge, Badlands, Loch Modan, and Arathi Highlands.
This little guy is an amazing pet. I use him in the celestial tournament for Zao and Xu-Fu. The following team can take BOTH of the legendaries out without healing, if used correctly:
Sunreaver micro sentry - Fel immolate, Lightning Storm
Cogblade Raptor - Exposed wounds
Clockwork gnome - Metal fist, Build turret.
Plain and simple really, Fel immolate then lightning storm. Swap to raptor and apply exposed wounds then go crazy with gnome turrets. Will tear any beast to shreds.
This guy is a beast (umm, a mech!) in Pet Battles. Not only does he have a good DoT (the turret is really like a dot that can stack) but he heals and rezzes, as a mechanical. Kicked my patootie, so now I want him!!
The only thing that would make this pet better is if he had a Gilnean accent to match his fancy-pants moustache.
"No time for dallying!"
@Khatee: You can get a second or even a third gnome; you just have to do the archaeology with a different character. While the pets are account-wide, your archaeology solves are completely individual. This will work with all the archaeology pets (voodoo figurine, pterrordax hatchling, etc)
this is my all time favourite, this was my 1st lvl 25 pet. he is so hard to kill and i just love his rocket attack. this is really a pet you must have
This is the leader of my battle pet team. As others have stated, he has a heal, a terrific dot (the turret cannon) and he's got moves that work on beasts or other mechanicals, and a really great move against dragonkin. I can't reccomend him enough.
The Clockwork Gnome model can /dance when using the magic pet mirror.
You can set up the rocket and launch it with another pet who has the same ability.
This guy is GREAT against Bloodknight Antari's third pet, the dragon Netherbite. His second dodge, Soul Ward, is a pain, but the Gnome's turrets easily remove it and continue to do damage. I use Onyxian Whelpling's Tail Sweep through the first pet, until she dies sometime on the 2nd, then a leveling pet, then Clockwork Gnome to finish the battle.
My favorite mechanical. Love this pet, he is very strong. Most used for tamers.
Gotta be my most used mechanical pet. He's my goto guy for tamers and the celestial tournament. Although Lil Bling has also made quite the impression on me as well.
This is one of the pets I use the most. It is great for PVP with Railgun, Blitz, and Build Turret it will do verry well aginst Dragons, mechanicals, and beasts. When I ust this pet in PVE I usualy switch out the Build Turret ability for the Launch Rocket It usualy one shots most beasts and helps a lot when fighting battlemasters.
does anyone know why the anubisath idol blocks turret shots every time? i mean everytime its up the idol blocks every shot the turret takes. even with multiple turrets. i have not been able to find anything in the pet battle logs to explain this.
Great pet for starting out but does loose it's charm at higher levels. Mech are strong against beasts so wild pets go down easily. Build Turret is a nice dot of which 2 can be up at a time if the fight goes on that long. Repair is useful and when coupled with the racial perk means you rarely lose when levelling.
It does take far too much damage higher levels though, so much so that it's worth swapping for a different Mech.
I'm so happy, some guy/girl just sold this on the AH for the affordable price of 400gold! First thing I did was click buyout as soon as I could, knowing this is a rare find! Now I can hopefully find that darn crawling claw by returning Restored artifacts and turning these in to Tol'Vir fragments! :-p
Had a mini pet battle tournament with some friends yesterday. Everyone had pets at level 10, and the bulk of the teams' members were rares (with mostly uncommons to round them out).
The winning team– not mine, sadly– went undefeated with the super-effective combination of:
Clockwork Gnome (Metal Fist / Repair / Build Turret)
Celestial Dragon (Breath / Ancient Blessing / Moonfire)
Curious Wolvar Pup (Punch / Snap Trap / Whirlwind)
The Wolvar Pup's Whirlwind was an effective opening move, and the Dragon's Breath can pummel you turn after turn. But it was the Gnome's turret-building that was just brutal.
His Build Turret ability is probably my favorite pet attack. Awesome :)
This was my second Dwarf artifact, was so stoked when I realised what it was!
Often a choice in any of my all mechanical teams and any battle where lots of little shots are more effective than big power ones.
Build Turret is one of my favourite mechanical moves, counters things like Bubble and Decoy with ease. Not a heavy hitter or great against pets with Shell Shield and the like but an awesome pet in the right situation.
