This companion is a rare tier Dwarfish archaeology item. It is created by discovering and "solving" 100 Dwarf Archaeology Fragments. Players may utilize up to three Dwarf Rune Stone to aid in the solving of this item. Each Dwarf Rune Stone is the equivalent of 12 Dwarf Archaeology Fragments.

Once completed, an entry on the Clockwork Gnome can be found in players' archaeology tab: "Mechagnomes were created by the titans, apparently as servants and caretakers, much like the earthen. This mechagnome was likely damaged because it is no longer focused on its original tasks and seems content to follow you."

Its a weak pet but the only thing you have to do is put Build Turret and then leave and put it back every time it dies or timesout. I like what do you guys (and girls) think?

I find this pet really weak. When it takes damage it gets low hp really fast and the Build Turret-attack often gets dodged by the pets you battle. I have one in lvl 25 but i must say the Darkmoon Zeppelin is a much better mechanical pet, it does a lot of damage and has the Decoy-attack that lets it dodge 2 attacks while you still can attack your enemy.

Great pet for starting out and also at higher levels. Mech are strong against beasts so wild pets go down easily. The turret is a nice dot or which 2 can be up at a time if the fight goes on that long. The heal is useful and when coupled with the racial perk means you raley lose.

The other selling point is that you can switch moves to be strong against other mechs and/or dragonkin for trainer battles.

I can't recommend this pet enough.

I'm so happy, some guy/girl just sold this on the AH for the affordable price of 400gold! First thing I did was click buyout as soon as I could, knowing this is a rare find! Now I can hopefully find that darn crawling claw by returning Restored artifacts and turning these in to Tol'Vir fragments! :-p

Had a mini pet battle tournament with some friends yesterday. Everyone had pets at level 10, and the bulk of the teams' members were rares (with mostly uncommons to round them out).

The winning team– not mine, sadly– went undefeated with the super-effective combination of:

Clockwork Gnome (Metal Fist / Repair / Build Turret)

Celestial Dragon (Breath / Ancient Blessing / Moonfire)

Curious Wolvar Pup (Punch / Snap Trap / Whirlwind)

The Wolvar Pup's Whirlwind was an effective opening move, and the Dragon's Breath can pummel you turn after turn. But it was the Gnome's turret-building that was just brutal.

This is the leader of my battle pet team.  As others have stated, he has a heal, a terrific dot (the turret cannon) and he's got moves that work on beasts or other mechanicals, and a really great move against dragonkin.  I can't reccomend him enough.

I battled a team comprised of 3 Clockwork Gnomes.  My team was mostly beasts.  Many turrets were spawned.  Much blood was spilt.  Sigh.

This guy is a beast (umm, a mech!) in Pet Battles.  Not only does he have a good DoT (the turret is really like a dot that can stack) but he heals and rezzes, as a mechanical.  Kicked my patootie, so now I want him!!

You definitely need to do Archy in Eastern Kingdoms for this one since there are so many more Dwarf sites. Kalimdor favors Night Elf sites The main issue is that You will make a ton of common items more than once before any rare items are offered. It is random which rare ones come up. Therefore you will do a lot of artifacts before you get any pets. I recommend you watch TV while you go for these Archy pets or it will drive you nuts. The Tol'vir ones are the hardest.

What would be great would be if this guy doubled as a wind-up train wrecker. Has anyone tried to test it?

I love how it has a nice swimming animation. It actually looks like it's swimming instead of just walking / flying through the water.

The Clockwork Gnome is extremely tiny. He is probably one fourth the size of the repair bot Jeeves. However, he is extremely detailed when you zoom in. I recommended you take a look yourself.

I didn't think I was ever going to get this. When I saw it was coming up in my archaeology next, I was excited, but then it was forever before I saw more dwarf nodes! FINALLY, I got him, though, and he's adorable! Much, much smaller than I expected him to be and he makes me go "awwwwww..." Really well made and detailed.

I've wanted one of these guys as a pet since Wrath of the Lich King. You could have Jeeves and Train Wreckers, but those don't follow you mindlessly to perils and dangers in Azeroth, do they?

The only thing that would make this pet better is if he had a Gilnean accent to match his fancy-pants moustache.

100 Dwarf Archaeology Fragments may seem like a lot but if you put on 3 maximum of 3 Dwarf Rune Keys, then you only need to farm 64 Fragments to complete this little guy, definitely a worthwhile farm though.
Dwarf dig sites can be found primarily in Burning Steppes, Searing Gorge, Badlands, Loch Modan, and Arathi Highlands.

The dwarf rune archaeology keystones are worth 12 fragments each and the Clockwork Gnome can have 3 keystones applied, saving you a total of 36 fragments so keep your keystones!
