I was reading on Wowhead and someone else (Brand) said this:
The Mists of Pandaria level enchant
Enchant Weapon - Elemental Force can be used to freeze Viscidus, as the elemental damage done counts as frost damage.
I am a lvl 90 Ret Paladin, I tried this it took some time but I did manage to down Viscidus solo! However; still trying to get the pet to drop!
Can not be done solo with a mage. You can get him to freeze very quickly by just doing blizzard but no way can a mage do fast enough melee attacks to shatter him. Bring a rogue friend if you're a mage.
I ran through the raid once and didn't get it. Then on the second rin I got it!! I was so thrilled. Somone said about trying to frreze the boos to kill him but the boss already did that. You might just get the pet when you see a lot of loot and it also comes when you least ecpect it. Happy hunting!
Not sure if this has anything to do with the pet dropping from the boss but the first couple times i killed him, he didn't disperse into multiple globules. The time i got the pet he did. So maybe the flavor text, "This small globule didn't make it back to Viscidus in time to re-form." is a clue to getting it.
So what am I doing wrong? I've solo'd this guy about 15 times so far and he NEVER drops the dang pet! Got all the other pets from this instance but this little guy NEVER drops!

I wished I had caught the tameable oozling (was a nsc ooze which was tameable with same look like this pet) a while ago with my hunter, but I missed it - so sad about that.
Dont know why, but I named mine Ryanoozling...
As a hunter (and some other classes) you can buy a weapon which deals additional frost damage in Brunnhildar (Brunnhildar Bow) to kill viscidus.

Caught this fella a while ago farely easily with my monk. I just dual wielded w/ Elemental Force x2 and it worked fine.
As far as priests go (keep seeing priests complaining about not being able to solo him). Just spam Mind Spike and pop a haste potion when he freezes and you should be able to get him down with no issues. Mind Spike deals Shadow/FROST damage which works fine to kill Viscidus.
(Had a friend attempt this with his priest and can confirm that it works.)
Soloed as SPriest and got him on first try. Used old transmog dagger with MOP elemental force enchant and my Barov Family trinket I had in my bank. Worked perfectly although I froze him to early and had to freeze him again them wait for my trinket to reset (10 min) to finish him off. Couldn't crack him with my fiend.
well just got this little guys, with a lvl 90 hunter and a lvl 85 death knight, didnt take very long to down the boss and thankfully this little dude droped out, and it was out first time in there.

I can confirm that a ele shaman ( I would assume an agility shaman could to) can solo this boss. Frost shock for about 3 minutes. Pop your earth ele and hero after he is frozen to get the hits on to shatter him. Just stop casting and auto attack while hero and ele are going. done it two weeks in a row now. no pet yet. only one left in there I need ><.

Soloed with a 90 feral druid. Saved CDs once I got him down 2/3rds of the way, but not really a problem - just a little slow to grind him down.
Pet dropped 1st attempt - I've never bothered to come this far into teh raid before (as couldn't solo it) so quite pleased so far.

I can confirm with a frost DK killing the boss is very easy. When he's at 1hp and frozen break out army and all of your cds. Unfortuneatly the pet didn't drop for me
Yes its easily possible with a frost dk - i just did it now - pop army when he freezes :) pet dropped aswell :)
UPDATE: As people have already stated, this is a short fast fight with a frost DK, holy moly. Less than 2 minutes but no pets.
Tried it with my badly geare hunter and almost died because I haven't trained my first aid since early Wrath, ugh. Frostweave bandages, boo. Anyway I used the Brunnhildar bow with a Chimera pet spamming the frost breath thingy and kept up mend pet, long fight but doable. :)
Shadowpriest + mindbender + cornerstone grimoire + vanq tentacle of yogg (constrictor) + commander's badge + 1.6 dagger + kafa press = SOLO ACHIEVED

Got this baby with my hunter yesterday. Downed him to 1% and realized that I had to shatter him with mechanics. Dismissed by pet, summonded my chimera pet and used Frost Breath until he froze. After that I popped some cds and it was a done deal (I don't think I had stampede on, probably only Lynx Rush, Rapid Fire, Bestial Wrath and the one that summons another pet).
My hunter is 461 yet.
Confirmed that this is solo-able by a Hunter with Brunnhildar Bow and Snake Trap. It took me awhile (3 frozen phases at 1HP, actually), but I got it.

Considering the boss mechanics this one is gonna be a huge pain in the ass..
Got mine tonight with the help of a friend. Tried with a warrior/mage first, but couldn't shatter him even with a fast melee weapon. I then read on Wowhead that someone was able to 2-man him at 85 using a Brunnhildar Bow on their hunter with snake traps. So my friend switched to his hunter and we easily got him to no health. Then the frost on the bow blocked him in ice and then the trap snakes were able to melee him dead. This worked beautifully. I think it might be possible to solo, but no way could I have done it as an arms warrior. Thank you, Michael!
So w/ 5.1 dropping, being lvl 90, raids being nerfed to be "soloable" and not needing groups to get in, I was super excited when I started. Then reality set in. I did AQ 40, bosses easier, except, get to the Slime guy and guess what, cant solo as a caster, and as a caster also can't solo the twins. So 0-1 w/ 2 pet bosses incomplete. Needless to say I ended the day not thrilled.
