Lofty Libram

Battle wise, this pet is great for leveling in Stranglethron vs birds and moths (any flyers really). It rips right through 'em! However, it doesn't take hits very well so if you pare it with a defensive pet it should make up for it.

I was grinding the rats for this unusal 'pet' for about five hours straight, then finally got bored and wandered off to capture some other rares I wanted to use in battles. After reading comments here I checked back later and picked the rare Lofty Libram at about 6:15am, and there was still a ton of books flying around when I left. So in short, maybe they swarm at dawn? I got a bunch of rares at this time, seems like a good time to go hunting... 

I circled and circled killing rats for about 20 mins, and did one logout, and killed a few more rats, and then one spawned, Common quality, but I have it!! it was in the little busted up buildings right next to the Dalaran Crater. ALSO! Got the acheivement for all classes of pets aquired! Nice. :D

Went back a day later while heading to other places to get ones I was missing, and there were 2 more spawned, and I got an Uncommon! Better than the Common one!

Found a bunch at 6:30am PST all around the crater. Just wanted to note -- do NOT depend on being able to log if the pet isn't the quality you're after. This, like Silithid Hatchling, will not respawn once engaged. Just take one of whatever quality and go. I found an uncommon on first try, but decided to take a peek at the quality of another. I logged out in order to leave it for someone else but it didn't respawn. Don't be me.

Just wanted to say, that all who say the Lofty Libram will not spawn when the rats are up is full of it.    Been here 3 days.  EVERY time I see the books, there are also 3-4 tameable rats up.   First day spent hours clearing rats, and anything else able to be killed.  And saw 1 book, with a tameable rat right next to it.  2nd and 3rd days just sat there in air, and after a few hrs multiple Librams spawned during a 10-15 min period.   So this is a timed spawn.  So listen to whoever you wish.  =)    Good luck.

Went through a few farming sessions with this one (only about 30 min each because I was never the only one farming and thought it a moot point) then double checked the area randomly and found 3 of them at once.

There were some in the building rings and one in the crater itself, seems to be about timing for spawns, don't bother battling rats, this is a primary pet only in battles.

Please only tame one, as the stones let you get rares!!!

never saw one inside the crater, only surrounding the outside. finally got my own at 30.35 , 31.65 just outside walls by the water, had a frog as second. Was common quality but I was happy just to get one :D

Only thing difficult about these is finding a rare. Leave an alt there, check every so often you WILL get one. I have been camping for 3 days for a rare. Last night I was happy to find an uncommon lol. In my experience there have always been rats presents when I have seen the books spawn. Tonight I was the only person hunting, saw 12 books spawn (no rare, 3 uncommon) and several rats were present.

North-East area, just outside Dalaran bubble.

Can't confirm 'clearing' of other pets, as it was alreay there when I arrived.  But, 1 Libram, lots of rats.

As a side note, just south of the crater is a small field where you can play a plants and zombies like quest line, get past the final in the series for a Singing Sunflower battle pet

I just got mine just inside the crater. I was killing all the criters in the area to make it spawn and it worked :D

I MUST have one of these! Arcane Mage main, this is a perfect pet to have!!

Found at 7:30 pm on U.S Thunderhorn.

These spawn in and around the town part, some on the outskirts. I've not see one in the crater.

Killing the other critters and battle pets seems to make them spawn faster.

Only poor and common quality so far.

Found an uncommon at 28, 43. Very cute, shame it doesn't follow while flying though.

Is it possible that these are linked to the Dalaran Summoners?  I've been killing rats all day, no other pets have spawned.

Was on Stormreaver today and found atleast 10 of them they all kept spawning after battling 5 i finally found a lvl 7 rare

Found a lvl 7 rare at the northern edge of the Dalaran Crater. Right on the purple line between the crater and the lake (28.6/32.4).  It took me about 10 minutes of searching the crater. I found 2 Librams in that time, 1 com., 1 rare.

I wish to god I had taken notice of the time.  I flew over the crater on the hopes of seeing a spawn and found 15 of them flying about. I think it was  just on sun up server time.  I've noticed this with a  few pets like the fluxfire feline. Most days you can't find one for love nor money then at a certain time they will spawn everywhere. I am going to start jotting down the times and places from now on.  Sorry to be so vague.

After reading the comments here I was thinking "Guess I should be happy with the poor quality one I have." I went to the Crater, saw someone else searching the area, happened to see one he hadn't tried, dropped in on it - a rare! SO lucky.

Can be found around Dalaran Crater on the West side of Hillsbrad Foothills. They seem to spawn on the "runes" around the bottom of the purple shell over the crater. The only exception to this is in the ruins south of the crater. Happy hunting.
