"Harvests souls" when owner kills player/mob that yields exp or honor. Pet doubles as vendor with unique items sold only to owner.

Trading Card Game promotion.

June 19, 2008

This pet, the largest land-based companion to date, is redeemed through the extremely rare 'Ethereal Plunderer' loot card from the World of Warcraft The Hunt for Illidan TCG expansion. The card may be scratched to reveal a code allowing access to this pet. The code may be redeemed at Blizzard's promotion retrieval page. The pet may be obtained in-game from Landro Longshot in Booty Bay.

This pet doubles as a specialized vendor. When its owner kills a mob that grants experience or honor, the Ethereal Soul-Trader will "harvest its soul", yielding a small amount of Ethereal Credits to the owner. In exchange for this currency, the following items may be purchased:

Note that you cannot sell your unwanted items to the Ethereal Soul-Trader.

One of my favorites and a good attention-getter, although he can be a bit annoying at times since he says "I have arrived, shall we set to work then?" every time you dismount or zone.

When battle pets went live he sadly shrunk by about half, previously he was taller than my dwarf characters. A Blizzard blue post confirmed that this was intended "to scale him to fit better with other battle pets". Now I have to use a Papa Hummel's Pet Biscuit if I want him to regain his former size. :(

My favourite pet of the lot! I always get messaged being asked how the hell I get it, on top of how to get ethereal credits. The vendor items are fun to use whilst raiding with your guild, and the purple lightning he shoots out to absorb dead enemies in dungeons always gets noticed.

The only downside I can think of, is that his intro message which he says every time he spawns can get annoying if you're regularly mounting and dismounting a flying mount. (e.g. whilst doing archaeology)

I recently got this pet. It is not my favorite because if I am in a low level area I don't want or need it around. And I am in low level areas questing for Loremaster, farming for pets, or doing Archaeology.

HOWEVER, it is the pet that has triggered the most questions from other players as many want it. But as they learn that is comes from TCG loot they are not happy.

I want the suit/costume and then I can go for the fun stuff.

My favorite part is the Mutagen. I think most pets still do their "tricks" with it on.

The Frostling still pelted with snowballs.

It is not yet noted in the description above, but this pet is now available through Landro's Pet Box as a random chance drop. The drop rate is low, and you will not see a rare pet if you already own it (making it hard to track opening statistics). But it is an alternative to the current prices of $150+ on eBay if you have UDE points to burn :)

A good place for a high-level character to farm Ethereal Credits on Northrend is in southwest Sholazar Basin where there are opposing camps of Frenzyheart Wolvar and Oracle Murlocs. If you have gained reputation with one of those two factions then fight the other. The NPCs have fairly low health and strength (considering their high-70s levels), and drop small amounts of cash silver, scrolls, and potions. They respawn quickly in large numbers.

I just found out that you can sell the stuff you get from him back to him and get your credits back in full. I don't think its like the other stuff where you only have two hours to do it either.

Having this pet out in a heroic where you are constantly looting bodies etc, might cause problems being able to open him as a vendor, since he is always click able. Or unless you use your pets for annoyances-which is great too!

The Ethereal Essence Sphere, like all throwing objects in the game can appear in you bag before the graphic shows it making it you. The difference with the sphere is that is so slow that you can out run it by foot and take the one in you bag and throw it back, creating two spheres out of one. In one raid we did this about one hundred times with just 3 spheres and everyone in the raid say about a hundred glowing balls flying around. Note that new people to the scene will not see the spheres.

This pet gets the most questions and comments from people who see it, bar none. And the question is always "how do you get ethereal soul credits?" It being a vendor immediately gets attention from everyone!

A fun thing to do with this pet is to put all the clothes on that he sells and baby spice yourself. At the same time, give him a pet biscuit and your roles are reversed! Now the pet is the master and you are the pet. As an undead even without the spice I come up to his knee when he has biscuit buff.

Hah! Take that Yeti! Finally, a companion pet that dwarfs even you! You're not so imposing anymore, Yeti. In fact, with this guy at my side, I can smite you down! And when your broken body falls, the Ethereal will harvest your soul! But then, you don't even have a soul, do you, Yeti? You're just a mindless wind-up toy, made with shoddy parts and broken dreams! I want your head, Yeti! I want— *snaps out of it* Whoah... sorry 'bout that, folks. These big pets always make me a little... unstable.
