Warlords of Draenor
Patch 6.0.1 | Posted: October 14, 2014
The Strange Spore can be found on top of a large mushroom in the mushroom field next to Elodor in northern Shadowmoon Valley (Draenor).

By following the main path through Elodar that leads to Exarch's Rise and then continue climbing the mountain behind this point, players can jump down to the mushroom where the spore is located.

Players can loot the Strange Spore in Shadowmoon Valley (Draenor) only once per character.

Fastest pet if above 50% life with a Blind (487.5). Remember that the next time Murkalot uses RI on Blackfuse Bombling. Even on the round it will be used it will still be faster. (Yes, I know Murkalot will see a flier and be tempted to swing his 3 hit mace a few times... so swap it in.)

There are great instructions on Wowhead with exact Waypoints on how exactly to get to the spore for this pet.

I'm a level 100 Horde Priest - the biggest trick was to time your way around the Alliance Village in Shadowmoon Valley (Exodor), there isn't much room to run outside of it but a few times there were paths I could cut straight through but with a fast steed and good timing as guards walked the opposite direction I was able to get through the village with only a few hits.  The main point you want to get to is 55.8 20.0.  Once you get to the edge you kind work your way down (not all the way down) and to the right of the ledge until you get to 56.2 18.4 where you can jump onto the Mushroom.

I really don't have room to post to the full instructions but if you lookup Umbrafen Spore on wowhead, the first comment has full instructions and they worked perfect even with Horde.

Rode up the hills behind Elodor, ran down toward the shroom on foot, hopped back on the mount and jumped to the spore. Easy peasy.

The higher level abilites look like they will be good, but wow this pet can not level itself from 1 without help from others - lol.

The item Aviana's Feather, from the Inn quest "Aviana's Request," makes this very easy. Position yourself under the spore - 55.0, 20.0 ish - and launch up into the air. You'll go much too high for the spore initially, but slowly spin yourself around in a big circle and you'll be able to land on the mushroom with the spore. It is very large and very noticeable. The feather has only a 10 minute CD, so if you mess up, it's easy to try again. Good luck!

EASY to get, if you got some platform gaming skills, and beeing horde doesn't hinder you, it just makes it slightly more interresting. :) However this pet is really weak in the lower lvl's and will need a boosting pet since it cannot kill anything whatsoever.

I got this pet about an hour ago. If you go to Ashran there is an archeology trainer and seller. The seller has "treasure maps" for 100g each. The treasure map for Shadowmoon Valley shows you exactly where the spore is. I was so excited! Good luck!

I highly recommend the U Tube vidoe to find this, if you look at the map there's a cluster of mushroom shapes and it's the top right mushroom you want but the route up there is tricky to find and there seems to be a 'dead' area which booted me everytime I hit it.

This one is incredibly difficult to get if you don't have an Alliance character. Getting to it means going through an Alliance city, Elodor, and without some sort of stealth ability, you'll likely face lots of dying. There might be another way, but all of the guides and videos I've found have all been from Alliance-side. This is the best one I've found -- if you're horde, just follow the same route while stealthed: http://youtu.be/Dtt50DAwC24

I looted this pet this morning from the Strange Spore located north-west of Elodor in Shadowmoon Valley.  The Strange Spore is at 55, 20.  Once learned the pet was Uncommon quality, Cageable, and S/S breed.  The Strange Spore you loot the Umbrafen Spore from is on top of a mushroom.  I was able to get to the mountain side to the north of the mushroom with some mountain climbing by way of Elodor. I was able to jump down on to the mushroom from a cliff just north of it.

The deep blue Umbrafen would later become home to a tribe of Broken.
