This delicate insect's wings are often sewn into clothing and armor.
When farming for a rare Gilded Moth (which come in sets of 3 that are always the same quality, with the same friends/quality combo), you can mark one with a raid symbol. Then pet battle the other two. This ensures that the respawns will be battle pets and not just critters. They will be new quality, with new friends. So you can battle the two unmarked ones again, leaving the raid marked one up. Then repeat until you get your rare. Also note, when you get your rare the remaining unmarked one will also be rare, so you have one to offer a friend
This also works with others that come in sets of three like the Horned Lizards in Uldum.

EDIT: I see the 2 you spoke of in the mountain bugged out and I could not even click on them (they were knifes not the paw print so I would have killed them if I click on them,) how did you manage? I have my terriable turnip in my main party at level 25 so I never kill pets anymore.
Edit2:Â OK I finally got one, stand at 55.33 on top of the cliff and you can reach the few that fly there. Finally got it!
The only ones I have found have been bugged underneath the floor or in the walls in the Shrine of Two Moons and un-targetable with the mouse. However, if you can get close enough you can "/target Gilded Moth" to target them and then use the "Interact with Target" keybind to engage it in combat.
They were also level 1 so don't forget to bring a low level pet along or you will just one shot them!
on magtheridon horde this one is bugged which it is seen flying into the building but if you wait for it, it flys out of the wall and can be tamed easy.
Just got rare one @ 55, 43 in Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
Should update the location map for this pet as it is not found only as an added pet in Vale of Eternal Blossoms. It is in fact found in groups of 3 around both Shrines, around the Golden Pagoda, and a little further north up on a ledge next to a goat.
Found 3 level 1s(yes, level one) today just flying around the allaince shrine.
Like previous comment, I found 3 NW of Mogu'shan Palace.  All 3 of those were rares!  One level 24 and 2 level 25 rares (all breed 8, 18).  Previously, I had seen a group of 3 more west of Mogu'shan Palace.  But those 3 were all poors.  Can't wait to level up at least 1, if not 2 of them.  I use my fast moths on Thundering Spirit all the time (was using a rare Fungal Moth until these catches)!  Also got a Flawless Flying Stone after 3rd battle!

I just found 3 level 1 Gilded Moths in Front of Shrine of 7 Stars. I should have cought one instead of just a screen shot. And yes, you read that right, LEVEL 1! So odd.
UPDATE: I caught myself a level 1 gilded moth.
I found about six groups of two by following the roads from the pagoda to the temple to the graveyard and so forth. Â Time was between 2:30am and 3:00am Aman'Thul server time
Unfortunately, every single one was either poor or normal quality, which I already have. Â Didn't see an uncommon or a rare.
Found 3 fluttering just south of the Golden Pagoda :)
Spent about 2 months trying to find any of these that were not flying through the mountains and uncapturable. Logged in today where I had left my toon sitting and there were 3 flying around me I startd battling and didnt realize until after I killed it, I needed that MOTH!!!! Ahhhhh! lucky there was 2 more. I found a group of 3 right next to the pet battle daily in vale of eternal blossoms Good luck finding yours.
I spent an hour or so killing the non-battle spawns near the Grand Master and at the pavilion on Whitepetal Lake to no avail. I repeated this seemingly fruitless action for 4 days straight and was finally rewarded with a group of three near the Grand Master, just below Shrine of Two Moons. They were uncommon and had two grey Civet Kittens attached so easy fight. I helped someone else get one as well through General Chat since grouped pets are nearly always duplicates.Â
In the 'battle two" method for the moth, the two new moths will spawn within 7 minutes. Got my rare on the fourth rotation. :)
The only ones I've ever seen were *inside* the mountain just behind Shrine of Two Moons, and I've been looking for a month now... Sent in a bug report to Blizz, but have yet to hear back. Hopefully they'll put in a hotfix for this!
Whitepetal lake at the Gazebo on the map, found three of them.
Found two in vale of eternal blossoms near Golden Lotus daily questgivers (coords: 47,52 middle map)
I wasn't able to find any in the entire zone, but after killing several groups of battle pets (the civets, respectively), I was able to force more respawns and managed to get a group of 3 uncommon gilded moths that spawned near Grand Master Aki.
Was hard to find but by AoE killing the non-combat critters I managed to find 2 traveling in a group. Â By sheer chance it was a rare. Â I capped one and made a zone annoucement to all other pet collectors (since battle pets traveling in groups always have matching battle groups).
Went to shrine of the two moons as ally, managed a break in the guards that see stealth, nabbed the moth and yay! It's a rare!
Update: I see the ones on the backside of the mountiain with the ledge now. Interestingly, the one I got at the shrine is a level 1, the ones behind the mountain are level 24.
