It looks like as of 5.1 there are a ton of them in the Kal'ai Ruins. The purple area in Northern Stranglethorn with all the murlocs. It also counted for the achievement immediately
Also found tons of these out in Mistvale Valley down in the Cape of Strangelthorn.
Caught mine in Northern Stranglethorn when i was hunting rare Polly's. There was no Kingsblood around at the time.
Somehow this pet seems to be bugged for now :( Just like Darkmoon balloon, it does not appear in the Armory when obtained...
Took a few days to find it...but finally got a rare one today in Kal'ai Ruins. Here u find crimson moths as the first pet instead of the secondary. I found mine at coord 41/42 :D
the kingsblood trick did NOT work at all.
tried it like 20 times now, not one spawn as main or secondary.
Ive caught this and the Wharf rat and it does not count towards the achievement either
Confirming that in Northern Stranglethorn, this pet appears as primary battle pet pretty much exclusively in the Kal'ai ruins - the bluish area northeast of Grom'gol with the murlocs all over the place. Also appears as secondary battle pet in the immediate vicinity of this area.
If you're not getting credit for catching them, catch another, I've had this problem with a few other pets, catching another one gives credit.

Just got mine at 51.06-50.36 at 12:55 server time (Thunderhorn) It's right about mistvale valley where all the gorillas are. Took me an hour to find a rare. Happy hunting <3

As of 5.1, the moth is now working. I had to release and recapture, but got credit and the achievement today.
I have trapped several of the crimson moth and it still shows as uncaught for Eastern Kingdom catch achievement, any comments, thoughts, solutions?
Trying to find a rare from pets that spawn as a second is really awful and painful, so far all I found was it comes second from the Polly and Strand Crab.
I would go by the beach or shores as there are more stand crabs there, but the chances of finding a moth as one of the pets is like 1 in 5.
Edit: You won't find the mob as a add on the crab in the middle of the zone, you need to hit the beach area, I found a lot of crabs and moths as a second pet on Jaguero Isle, but it still seems like a 1 in 5 rate, trying to find a rare is pretty much luck.

The kingsblood trick worked for me, mine spawned on second try, with a strand crawler near the river.
Nabbed mine as an add in Booty Bay, odly enough.
It is bugged for the achievement for sure though.
Finally found this after going through many pets in Northern Stranglethorn. It was tacked on to a Polly. Good luck!
OK- I saw this on Wowhead, and it works.
The Crimson Moth seems to only appear as a secondary pet, however, it is noted in the text that it loves Kingsblood. I turned on my herbalism and farmed pets only next to Kingsblood and the moth never failed to show. Best tip ever.
