I caught a poor, Uncommon, and Rare Chicken In Elwynn Forest. The Location Is be the Eastvale Logging Camp. Only took me 3 Tries to find the Rare one, but I'm lucky like that.
Wanted to catch a rare verison of it and farmed chicken around Darkshire in Duskwood. Caught it after 10-12 battles.
Just captured a rare L21 as secondary on Isle of spears in Howling Fjord whilst farming for Worg Pup
Found one as secondary on Bloodmyst isle near the quest bear in the northern part.
I just got a rare chicken as an addon to a fight with a maggot at the Ruins of Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills even though it's not listed as a possible location.
Level 19-20 Chickens also inhabit Howling Fjord. I caught a rare one in Westguard Keep.

I found one as a secondary pet (to a Rat) in Hillsbrad Foothills just outside the Dalaran Crater.
In elwin forest it can be found at the eastvale logging camp
I got mine by battling the toads and snakes in Dustwallow Marsh, they come as the second pet to battle so you won't see it as the actual critter to click on for a battle.
I was not able to find a "wild pet" chicken in Northern Barrens, only the "critter" variety.
