Apothecary Furrows is located within Cliffspring Falls in Darkshore. Note that he is an NPC that Alliance can kill for a quest item.

Alliance players must loot an item from Jor'kil the Soulripper after killing him for a quest that is given while on the Darkshore quest chain. This item will start another quest and unlocks Remembrance of Auberdine.

Upon summoning this companion it will be taller than a gnome, but over time it will shrink to the size of the Teldrassil Sproutling. If it is near a body of water while in its smaller state, it will emote "Withers absorbs the water, growing back to full size" and grow back to its original size.

For those of you who are Alliance, I've detailed the quest chains that lead up to this pet here, at wowhead.

Here is a list of quests to unlock The Shatterspear Invaders, assuming you haven't done any in Darkshore up to this point. It's pretty much all the quests you would normally encounter, but I did leave out the optional quests.:

Threat from the Water from Ranger Glynda Nal'Shea

The Last Wave of Survivors from Dentaria Silverglade

The Boon of the Seas from Serendia Oakwhisper

Buzzbox 413 from Wizbang Cranktoggle

No Accounting for Taste from Buzzbox 413

Buzzbox 723 from Wizbang Cranktoggle

I think its kinda unfair that horde can buy him while alliance has to spend hours questing.
But since when has life been fair. :(

Horde Directions

Apothecary Furrows is inside Cliffspring Hollow (cave) located at 56.86, 31.28 in Darkshore.

For those on foot, the ramp up to the cave is located at 56.20,27.20.

Enter the cave, turn left and follow the ramp down, and take a left at the bottom of the ramp. He's up on the ledge, standing next to the table, to the left as you enter that part of the cave.

I just got him- You've got to do quite a few quests for the guy to give him to you. Sunsmoon's post on the wowhead "Remembrance of Auberdine" page is incredibly useful.

Bought from vendor? Easy! Will go pick that up quickly. Erm . . . nope :p A real pain to find at least as Horde. At cliffspring on the map there are 2 caves. You want the northern one. The path up to it is marked by torches. However, it looks like an ordinary cave full of low-level grels (this is what confused me at first, I didn't bother to go in). However, a Horde-friendly apothecary is down there! Go right to the bottom and left (south) as another poster has said. Good luck!

I thought you guys should know that ever since MoP came out, withers doesn't seem grow back to normal size when he is near/in the water.

Starts off the same size as the Teldrassil Sproutling, shrinks down to a real tiny size... no bigger than a large boot, and lower than a gnomes belt.

Wither's quest chain - I followed this guide and it was spot on, except you do NOT need to complete Boon of the Seas. You do have to complete all of the others though (I tried to do as few quests as possible.) Took about 1.5 hours of casual questing at level 85.

Really worth the trip and I hope his animations get fixed soon :(

This pet costs 50 Silver at the Apothecary Furrows, maybe you could update the Cost Info. It only has 5 Silver discount because of the Guild Perk, but no Faction Discounts, the Vendor doesn't have any Faction, it's just Friendly with the Horde. Apothecary Furrows, does kick his little Imp Minion tho, for that only, it's worth the trip all the way up his cave into Darkshore...

When the quest didn't show up for me I opened a ticket - GM told me that I completed the quest some time ago and... err... MISPLACED the quest reward.

GM had a heart for pet collector's though and informed me that Withers is one of the very few quest rewards that can be restored by customer service according to Blizz' policy.

Would it be unkind of me to withhold water from Withers just so I don't feel so short standing next to him? Ah, who am I kidding. I could never be that cruel. Drink to your heart's content, thirsty one! And rust—er, drink to your heart's content, too, Mechanical Yeti!
