This pet is received via an in-game mail sent to all characters (current and future) on all accounts tied to a Battle.net account that has been linked to a Blizzard Authenticator. If the authenticator is removed from a Battle.net account, the Core Hound Pup will disappear from the collection of all of characters associated with the account. If an authenticator is reattached, the pet will be re-mailed to all characters. If you switch authenticators while in-game, the pet will remain intact.

"You'd better be telling the truth, you two-faced dog."

"I can get you one of them, actually. Very good guard dogs. They can watch the back and the front door at the same time."

This pet is almost continually doing its active idle animations (yes I note the irony). If it isn't up on its hind legs begging, it's digging for a bone, fighting over said bone, or rolling over. Basically, it's just REALLY excited to be your pet.

Oh and like KT, and some of the other newer pets, he is GIGANTIC on pet biscuits. This can lead to targeting issues, especially if you are a tank and he's doing his begging animation.

The authenticator uses Kerberos security. Kerberos is also the 3-headed hound that guards the gates of Hades.

Once again, my heart melts for a miniaturized version of a raid boss. Oh Blizzard, how many more tiny (fiery) bundles of love must you drop into my lap? My romantic soul cannot handle having so many adorable critters in my stores yet being able to use only one at a time. It's cruel, I tell you! CRUEL!

Since you only get this little guy if you have an Authenticator tied to your account, some guilds are using him as a security feature on the guild bank: people don't get access until they show their Corehound Pup pet.

I think its awesome that they decided to add this little one as a "reward" for getting the Authenticator.

Although they've moved away from achievement pets for every 25 pets learned, it's nice to see Blizzard using pets as a carrot for things they want players to do. This pup is much better than Mr. Chilly (sorry, Chilly), who's pretty boring. This guy is as interesting as any pet in the game, and a definitely five-star one.

I'm not a BM hunter, but anyone with a core hound pet needs to have this one out full time.

The letter that comes with this little pup is as follows:
Hello!
Please give a warm welcome to your fiery, friendly, core hound pup!
I'm so happy you could give this feisty little fellow a home.
~Breanni
I believe this pet is as good as the Pandaren Monk or Lil' K.T. pets. His animations are darling & the frequency of them is unlike any pet. Sadly I haven't noticed and special animations linked to actions like /siting /howling etc.

I love this pet. Everytime I make a char I always couldn't wait to go to the mail box and go get him. Now with MoP out I don't have to go to the mail box anymore but I always try to summon him when someone else has him. I also love all of the emotions that he does it makes the pet more fun and interactive :D Happy Collecting :D

With the introduction of pet genders to this site, I have found out that my core hound pup is female. Will now be changing her name to whatever variation of "Flaming B*tch" the game will allow :)

I like the incentive for getting an authenticator. If you think about it, we really cared about getting the pet for our collection and now all our Blizzard games are more protected from hackers.
It really is a great pet too. I use him a lot!

To me this pet is a bit double-edged for me. While he is a great-looking pet, has good animations, and gave me the final push I needed to purchase an authenticator, he is also overly-noisy. He makes his ghostly, barking noise every few seconds, and this can become a bit annoying if you are not currently basking in the glory of this cool pet. In closing, if you don't have an authenticator, get one. It provides great security which helps make up for the battle.net name being based on your email.

When I adopted that core hound from Ragnaros, he didn't tell me it was pregnant... or that core hounds have 666 puppies to a litter! Ambitious as I am, I thought it would be fun to teach them to beg, fetch, and roll over, but then they wouldn't stop! You can imagine how many fires were set by 666 flaming puppies rolling around. My shop nearly burned to the ground! Glad I found some nice folks that needed a guard dog — confining my water elemental to fire duty was getting to be a nuisance.
